Eli Lilly's antibody cocktail gets DCGI nod to treat moderate Covid

Eli Lilly and Company India on Tuesday said it has received permission for emergency use of its antibody drugs combination used for treatment of mild to moderate Covid-19, in the country.
 
The company has received permission for restricted emergency use of its monoclonal antibody drugs, bamlanivimab 700 mg and etesevimab 1400 mg, used together for the treatment of patients with mild to moderate Covid-19, Eli Lilly said in a statement.
 
"Lilly is engaging in active dialogue with the Indian government and regulatory authorities to donate bamlanivimab and etesevimab in order to speed up access and provide treatment options for patients with Covid-19," it added. READ MORE...

CBSE Class 12 exams: PM Modi to chair a meet today evening, says report

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting on Tuesday evening to deliberate upon conducting CBSE Class 12 board examinations amid the Covid-19 pandemic, a news report said.
 
Others present at the meeting will brief the PM on all options because of the extensive discussions with all states and other stakeholders, ANI quoted government sources as saying.
 
Union Minister for Education Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has previously stated that any decision on the conduct of Class 12 examinations will be taken after extensive consultations with all stakeholders. Nishank held a high-level meeting on the matter on May 23 with education ministers of all states and union territories, as well as state education boards and representatives from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Eli Lilly and Company India on Tuesday said it has received permission for emergency use of its antibody drugs combination used for treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19, in the country, according to a PTI report.

Petrol, diesel sales drop 17% in May on slow demand due to Covid lockdowns

India's petrol and diesel sales fell by about 17 per cent in May from a month ago as restrictions clamped to curb the world's worst outbreak of coronavirus infections stifled demand.
 
Sales of petrol -- used in cars and motorcycles -- fell to 1.79 million tonne in May, the lowest in a year, according to the preliminary data of state-owned fuel retailers.

While the consumption was almost 13 per cent higher than demand in May 2020, it was 28 per cent lower than pre-COVID levels of 2.49 million tonne.

Odisha reports record 37 coronavirus deaths in a day

Odisha reported the highest single-day COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday as 37 people lost their lives, taking the toll to 2,791, a Health Department official said.
 
The state also reported 8,735 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the tally to 7,73,732. These cases were detected after testing 62,293 samples.
 
At present, there are 89,956 active cases in Odisha. In the last 24 hours, 10,405 people have recovered. The total recovery stands at 6,80,932.

Covid LIVE: Govt imposes curbs on export of Amphotericin-B injections

The government on Tuesday imposed curbs on export of Amphotericin-B injections that are used for treatment of mucormycosis or black fungus infections.
 
According to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), export of the injections have been put in the restricted category. This means that an exporter would need permission or licence from the directorate for its outbound shipments.
 
"The export of Amphotericin-B injections... is restricted, with immediate effect," it said.

Israel lifts almost all Covid restrictions

Following a sharp drop in new Covid-19 infections and severe illnesses, Israel is almost completely lifting government restrictions imposed to halt the spread of the virus, the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday. According to the announcement, regulations under the so-called Green Passport will expire the same day, which means that in future public institutions will be open to both vaccinated and unvaccinated people, reports dpa news agency.
 
The presentation of a vaccination certificate as a pre-requisite for admission will no longer be required.
 
In connection with this measure, all attendance and visitor limits for events, shops and restaurants, for example, will be abolished. However, the obligation to wear a mask indoors will remain in place for the time being. Certain obligations also continue to apply when entering Israel.

Consignment of 30 lakh doses of Russia's vaccine Sputnik V lands at Hyderabad's airport

A consignment of three million doses of Russia's COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here on Tuesday.
 
A GMR Hyderabad Air Cargo (GHAC) press release said the vaccine consignment arrived from Russia on a specially chartered freighter RU-9450 which touched down at Hyderabad Airport at 03.43 hours.
 
"While GHAC has already handled several import shipments of vaccine prior to this, todays shipment of 56.6 tonnes of vaccines is the single largest import shipment of COVID-19 vaccines handled in India till date.This shipment completed all processes and was dispatched in less than 90 minutes," it said.
 
The Sputnik V vaccine requires specialised handling and storage, required to be kept at a temperature of -20 C.
