The health sector's evolution calls for active involvement and participation of all stakeholders and use of innovation to bridge intent and execution,President Ram Nath Kovind said on Sunday as he noted that healthcare delivery in India is poised to undergo change at all stages.

He also hoped that the world has learnt the right lessons from the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Healthcare delivery in India is poised to undergo a change at all stages prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

No single entity in the the healthcare sector can deliver results and achieve outcomes," Kovind said.

Odisha records 72 new Covid-19 cases

Odisha's Covid-19 caseload on Sunday rose to 3,35,620 after 72 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said.
 
The death toll remained unchanged at 1,909 as no fresh fatality was reported since Saturday, he said
 
Of the 72 cases, 43 were reported from quarantine centres and the rest detected during contact tracing.

Bangladesh rolls out Covid-19 vaccine from Serum Institute of India

The Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine from the Serum Institute of India (SII) is being rolled out across Bangladesh on Sunday amid lukewarm interest from the people to receive the shots against the virus.
 
Two million vaccine doses arrived in the country on time from India as a gift. The vials were sent across the country as planned, and the vaccinators and volunteers have been trained.
 
The nationwide immunisation drive against the coronavirus in 1,015 centres started on Sunday after revising its vaccination plan to administer 3.5 million doses in the first month instead of 6 million.

Chinese mainland reports 11 new Covid-19 cases

The Chinese mainland has reported 11 new Covid-19 cases, including one locally transmitted, the National Health Commission said on Sunday. The locally transmitted case was reported in Jilin, the Commission said in its daily report.
 
Ten new imported cases were reported, with three in Shanghai, two each in Beijing, Jiangsu and Guangdong, and one in Hunan, reports Xinhua news agency.
 
Two new suspected Covid-19 cases from outside the mainland were reported in Shanghai, and no new deaths related to the disease were reported, the commission said. By the end of Saturday, a total of 4,790 imported cases had been reported on the mainland.

India sends Covid-19 vaccines to Afghanistan

Keeping up with its humanitarian gesture, India on Sunday sent COVID-19 vaccines to Afghanistan by a Mumbai-Delhi-Kabul Air India flight. Last month, Tahir Qadiry, Afghanistan's Charge d'Affaires had said Afghanistan will receive 500,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine from India.
 
"In the continuation of admirable humanitarian gesture and bilateral bonhomie, India will soon send 500,000 doses of vaccine to Afghanistan. This will expedite our efforts to tackle this medical emergency. Immensely thankful to our allies," Qadiry tweeted.
 
Till now, India has supplied Indian-made COVID-19 vaccines to neighbouring countries including Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar, and Bangladesh.

Turkey confirms 7,897 new coronavirus cases

Turkey on Saturday confirmed 7,897 new COVID-19 cases, including 618 symptomatic patients, as the total number of positive cases in the country reached 2,524,786, according to its health ministry. The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 108 to 26,685, while the total recoveries climbed to 2,412,505 after 8,089 more cases recovered in the last 24 hours.
 
A total of 137,649 tests were conducted over the past day, with the overall number of tests in Turkey reaching 30,486,691.
 
The country started mass vaccination of health workers against COVID-19 on Jan. 14 after the authorities approved the emergency use of the Chinese CoronaVac vaccine. More than 2,600,000 people have been vaccinated so far. Turkey reported its first COVID-19 case on March 11, 2020.

Coronavirus LIVE: India reports 12,059 new Covid-19 cases in past 24 hours

With 12,059 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, India has reported a total of 1,08,26,363 cases so far, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday (MoHFW). India has reported 11,805 discharges and 78 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the total discharges and death toll to 1,05,22,601 and 1,54,996 respectively.
 
The total number of COVID-19 active cases has reached 1,48,766, as per the Union Health Ministry, while 57,75,322 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 so far.
 
India on Saturday registered a record by crossing the landmark 20-crore total cumulative COVID-19 tests. Meanwhile, a total of 20,13,68,378 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to 6th February. Of these, 6,95,789 samples were tested yesterday, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

282 new coronavirus cases in Maharashtra's Thane district, four more deaths

The COVID-19 tally in Maharashtra's Thane district has gone up to 2,55,491 with the addition of 282 new cases of the infection, an official said on Sunday. Apart from these cases reported on Saturday, four more people also succumbed to the viral infection, taking the death toll in the district to 6,178, he said.
 
The COVID-19 mortality rate in the district is 2.42 per cent, he said.
 
So far, 2,46,137patients have recuperated from the infection, taking the recovery rate in the district to 96.34 per cent, the official said. There are 3,176 active COVID-19 cases in the district at present, he added. In neighbouring Palghar district, the COVID-19 case count has gone up to 45,324,while the death toll is 1,199, an official from the district administration said.

Jharkhand logs 41 new coronavirus cases; tally rises to 118,979

At least 41 more COVID-19 cases were registered in Jharkhand, raising the tally in the state to 1,18,979, a health department official said on Sunday. The toll stood at 1,077, with no new death reported since Saturday, he said. Of the 41 fresh cases, 25 were recorded in Ranchi, seven in Dumka and six in East Singhbhum. Jharkhand currently has 428 active cases, while 1,17,474 people have recovered from the infection.
 
As many as 9,467 samples have been examined in the state since Saturday, the official added. Meanwhile, the health department, in a report, said 9,915 more health workers were administered the COVID-19 vaccine in the last 24 hours. A total of 95,916 frontline workers have received the shots until Saturday, and 246 cases of Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) have been reported, the department said.

UK plans to tax firms that profited from Covid-19 pandemic, says report

Britain plans to tax retailers and tech companies whose profits have soared during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sunday Times reported, citing leaked emails.
 
The government has summoned companies to discuss how an online sales tax would work, while plans are also being drawn up for a one-off “excessive profits tax”, the newspaper reported.
 
Finance minister Rishi Sunak is unlikely to announce these taxes at the budget announcement scheduled for March 3, which will focus on an extension of the COVID-19 furlough programme and support for businesses, the report said. READ ON...
