Maharashtra reports 4,355 new Covid-19 cases, 119 deaths, 4,240 recoveries
Maharashtra reported 4,355 new coronavirus cases and 119 fresh fatalities on Tuesday, taking the infection tally to 64,32,649 and the toll to 1,36,355, a state health department official said.
Seven districts namely Wardha, Gondia, Akola, Yavatmal, Hingoli, Jalna, and Dhule did not report any fresh infection of COVID-19 (in their rural areas), and same was the case with Chandrapur, Amaravati, Akola, Parbhani, Jalgaon, Dhule and Malegaon municipal corporations (urban centres), he said. The official said 4,240 patients were discharged from hospitals across the state in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative number of recovered cases to 62,43,034. Maharashtra now has 49,752 active cases, he said.

Global Covid-19 caseload tops 213 mn
The global coronavirus caseload has topped 213 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 4.45 million and vaccinations soared to over 4.99 billion, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
In its latest update on Wednesday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload, death toll and vaccination tally stood at 213,098,413, 4,450,408 and 4,995,430,625, respectively.
The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 38,053,653 and 630,663, respectively, according to the CSSE.

Coronavirus global update: Australian state sets another high for cases
Australia's New South Wales state has recorded another new daily high of 919 coronavirus infections. It also has had two more deaths related to Covid-19.
New South Wales's previous high for a 24-hour period was 830 infections reported Sunday.
Health Minister Brad Hazzard said Wednesday that the health system in Australia's most populous state is under pressure but is coping.
The Covid-19 death toll has reached 76 in New South Wales since the outbreak of the delta variant was first detected in Sydney on June 16.
Neighbouring Victoria, Australia second-most populous state, reported 45 new infections Wednesday.

The cases of Delta Plus variant of coronavirus in Maharashtra has gone up to 103 after 27 new infections were reported in the state, the state health department said on Tuesday.
According to the health department, six cases each were detected in Gadchiroli and Amravati, five in Nagpur, four in Ahmednagar, three in Yavatmal, two in Nashik and one in Bhandara district.
As per official data, there are 53,433 active cases of Covid-19 in Maharashtra.
"The cumulative cases of Covid-19 in the state stands at 62,38,794, while as many as 1,36,067 people have succumbed to the infection so far," the Union Health Ministry said.

World coronavirus update: Cuba registers record number of 9,907 daily Covid cases
Cuba registered on Tuesday 9,907 new Covid-19 infections in the last day, a record number, to total 602,526 cases.
The Ministry of Public Health also reported 92 more deaths, bringing the total to 4,710, Xinhua news agency reported.
The ministry's national director of hygiene and epidemiology Francisco Duran said during his daily report that the country registered 50,371 active cases, the highest daily figure of the pandemic.
"All provinces reported a positivity rate higher than 16 per cent from the samples analyzed, except for the western provinces of Havana and Matanzas, and the Special Municipality of the Isla de la Juventud," the expert said.

46 Pakistanis sent back from Attari-Wagah Border over non-availability of proper Covid report
A group of 46 Pakistani nationals including 23 children, who were supposed to be repatriated from Amritsar, were sent back from the Attari-Wagah border after the Pakistan government denied entry to them over non-availability of proper COVID report.
"We got tested on Monday but the Pakistan government did not approve. Our tests are being done again," says Wazir, a Pakistan national.
Speaking to ANI, Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Arunpal Singh, Protocol Officer at Attari-Wagah Border said, "These people have arrived in India a year ago to visit the sacred places and were stranded in Amritsar due to COVID induced lockdown."
"Earlier also around 15-20 days ago these people came to the Attari-Wagah border without prior permission and were sent back," he added.

World coronavirus update: UK records highest daily Covid-related death toll since March
Britain has reported another 174 coronavirus-related deaths, the highest number of fatalities recorded in one day since 175 were recorded on March 12, according to official figures.
The total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Britain now stands at 131,854. These figures only include the deaths of people who died within 28 days of their first positive test. Another 30,838 people in Britain have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 6,555,200, Xinhua reported.
Meanwhile, data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) showed on Tuesday that there were 652 coronavirus-related deaths registered in Britain during the week to August 13, the highest number since 800 fatalities were recorded in the week to March 26.
The latest data came as almost 5,000 coronavirus cases in Britain are suspected to be linked to Boardmasters music and surfing festival in Cornwall, with health officials launching an investigation.

Coronavirus LIVE updates: Assam reports 555 new Covid-19 cases, 13 deaths
Assam recorded 555 new Covid-19 cases, and 13 deaths during the last 24 hours said the National Health Mission of the state.
According to the media bulletin, there are 6,658 active cases with a positivity rate of 0.59 per cent.
The recovery rate of Assam stands at 97.68 per cent with the fatality rate at 0.96 per cent. So far, the state has registered 5,85,689 cases, 5,72,084 recoveries and 5,600 deaths.
