COVID-19 impact: Disneyland to lay off more employees as shutdown continues

As theme parks remain closed in California due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Disneyland has announced that it is furloughing more employees. According to Variety, the furloughs were announced in a letter to staff sent from Disneyland President Ken Potrock on Monday. Though the exact number of furloughs is unknown, the action will include executives, as well as salaried and hourly employees. Affected employees will be able to maintain their health insurance and other benefits. The memo read, "After nearly eight months our parks and hotels remain closed, and while we have had some successes -- like the opening of the Downtown Disney District in July, shopping and dining coming soon to Buena Vista Street and today's announcement that we will reopen Disney Vacation Club units -- the recently released state guidelines put us in limbo regarding a reopening timeline in the foreseeable future."

Covid scare: 66% consumers set to visit markets just for festive shopping

Due to the impact of Covid-19, 66 per cent consumers are expected to just visit the local market for festive shopping instead of visiting main markets in town, this Diwali. Twenty per cent consumers are expected to visit the main market in their town for festive shopping while only 16 per cent consumers expected to visit malls this festive season. Local and neighbourhood retailers and traders to see higher consumer footfalls, as per a survey by Local Circles.

Odisha reports 987 new cases of Covid-19 in last 24 hours

With 987 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the past 24 hours, the count of active cases rose to 12,584 in Odisha, as per the State's Health Department on Tuesday. The total cases of Coronavirus stood at 3,03,780 and as many as 2,89,689 people recovered from the infection so far in the state. The death toll is at 1,454 in Odisha. With 38,074 new COVID-19 infections reported in the last 24 hours, India's total cases surged to 85,91,731, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Tuesday.

Italy reports over 25k new coronavirus cases

Italy registered 25,271 new coronavirus cases and 356 fatalities in the last 24 hours, which took the overall caseload and death toll to 960,373 and 41,750, respectively, the Health Ministry said. Monday's figure marked a moderate slowdown compared to the 32,616 new cases reported a day earlier, Xinhua news agency quoted the Ministry as saying. The total number of active cases in the country is 573,334, the vast majority of which (542,849) are currently isolated at home with no or mild symptoms.

Arunachal Pradesh's Covid-19 tally rises to 15,484

Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally mounted to 15,484 as 48 more people, including an Assam Rifles jawan and a health worker, tested positive for the infection, an official said on Tuesday. Of the 48 new cases, 13 were reported from the Capital Complex region, 5 from Lepa Rada and 4 cases each from Tirap and West Kameng. Three fresh cases each were also registered in Lower Dibang Valley, Changlang and Lohit, two each in Lower Siang, Papumpare, Shi-Yomi and Anjaw and one each in West Siang, East Kameng, Upper Siang, Namsai and Longding districts respectively, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

60 new Covid-19 cases in Mizoram; tally rises to 3,156

Mizoram on Tuesday reported 60 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the state's tally to 3,156, an official said. Fifty-one cases were confirmed at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) with RT-PCR machines, 8 with Rapid Antigen Test and one case was confirmed at Champhai district hospital with TrueNat machine, the official said. Of the 60 cases, 57 cases were reported from Aizawl district, 2 from Lawngtlai district and 1 case was reported from Champhai district.

SC asks Delhi to move HC on reserving 80% ICU beds for Covid patients

The Supreme Court Tuesday asked the AAP government to approach the Delhi High Court with its plea against staying of its decision to reserve 80 per cent ICU beds in 33 private hospitals for Covid-19 patients. A vacation bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and B R Gavai took note of the urgent plea of the Delhi government on the ground of a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases in the national capital and said its appeal be listed for hearing on Thursday instead of November 27 by a division bench of the high court.

Shanghai airport worker gets virus; 8,000 tested

Authorities in China's financial hub of Shanghai have quarantined 186 people and conducted coronavirus tests on more than 8,000 after a freight handler at the city's main international airport tested positive for the virus. No additional cases have been found, the city government said on its microblog Tuesday. It remains unclear how the 51-year-old man contracted the virus, which has largely spared the sprawling metropolis despite its dense population and strong international links In the northern port city of Tianjin, more than 77,000 people have been tested after a locally transmitted case was reported there on Monday. That case was believed to be linked to a cold storage warehouse, reinforcing suspicions that the virus may be spreading to victims from frozen food packaging.

COVID-19: 1,267 new cases, 4 deaths in Telangana

Telangana has registered 1,267fresh coronavirus cases taking the total infection count to2.52 lakh while fourmore deaths pushed the toll to 1,385. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 201, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri 109 and Rangareddy 104, a government bulletin said on Tuesday, providing details as of 8 pm on November 9.

13 new cases push COVID-19 tally of Andamans to 4,463

The Covid-19 tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 4,463 on Tuesday as 13 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said. Eight new patients have travel history, while five fresh infections were detected during contract tracing, the official said. Eighteen more people have been cured of the disease, he said. The archipelago now has 164 active coronavirus cases, while 4,239 people have recovered from the disease so far, the official said.
