US: WHO not sharing enough info about plans to investigate origin of coronavirus

A senior US government official complained Tuesday that the World Health Organization has not shared enough information about its planned mission to China to investigate the animal origins of the coronavirus.
 
Garrett Grisby of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services griped that the criteria for WHO's China mission had not been shared with other nations. He spoke during a weeklong meeting of the U.H. health agency's member countries.

14 new cases push coronavirus tally of Andamans to 4,477

The coronavirus tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 4,477 on Wednesday as 14 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said.
 
Eleven new patients have travel history, while three fresh infections were detected during contract tracing, the official said.
 
Sixteen more people have been cured of the disease, he said.

Brazil halting coronavirus vaccine CoronaVac trial surprises the world

Brazil's health regulator has halted clinical trials of the potential coronavirus vaccine CoronaVac, citing an “adverse, serious event.” The decision posted on Anvisa's website Monday night elicited immediate surprise from parties involved in producing the vaccine.
 
The potential vaccine is being developed by Chinese biopharmaceutical firm Sinovac and in Brazil would be mostly produced by Sao Paulo's state-run Butantan Institute. Sao Paulo state's government said in a statement it “regrets being informed by the press and not directly by Anvisa, as normally occurs in clinical trials of this nature.” Read on...

Coronavirus vaccine hope dampens prospects for corporate stay-at-home darlings

The surge in shares of Netflix , Zoom and other of this year's stay-at-home corporate winners has been brought to a sudden halt by promising vaccine data suggesting a possible way out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
The jury was still out on Tuesday, however, as to whether that reverse, sparked by positive data from trials run by U.S. drugs giant Pfizer and Germany's BioNtech, would last.
 
Shares in video conferencing network Zoom fell 4% on Tuesday after plunging about 17% a day earlier. But both exercise bike maker Peloton, which sank more than 20% on Monday, and Netflix, actually gained ground on Tuesday.
 
Tech heavyweights from Google-parent Alphabet to Apple and Amazon also suffered but have still mushroomed hugely in value this year.

Goa issues SOPs for re-opening schools, allows 12 students per class

Goa government has issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for partial re-opening of schools in the state for Class X and Class XII from November 21.
 
As per the SOP, there should not be more than 12 students in a class and suggested the odd-even formula for classes.
 
It mentioned that students should be sensitized to maintain a safe distance in the classroom with a minimum distance of 6 feet. Read on...

Coronavirus world update: UK records highest daily Covid-19 death toll since mid-May, toll at 49,770

Another 532 people with coronavirus have died in Britain, marking the highest daily coronavirus death toll since mid-May, according to official figures.
 
The new deaths bring the total coronavirus-related fatalities in Britain to 49,770, the figures released on Tuesday showed, Xinhua news agency reported.
 
Another 20,412 people have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 1,233,775, the data showed. Read on...
