Covid impact: June GST collection falls below Rs 1 trn-mark after 8 months
Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for the month of June fell below Rs 1 trillion for the first time in months, data released government data released on Tuesday showed.
The gross GST revenue collected in the month of June is at Rs 92,849 crore. The collection dropped below Rs 1 trillion mark after posting above the mark for eight months in a row. GST collections moderated to a eight-month low of Rs 1.02 trillion in May.
The revenues for the month of June 2021 are 2 per cent higher than the GST revenues in the same month last year. Read here

Odisha logs 2,487 new cases, 51 more fatalities
Odisha's Covid-19 tally mounted to 9,27,186 on Tuesday as 2,487 more people tested positive for the infection, while 51 fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 4,299, a health department official said.
Of the new cases, 1,428 were reported from quarantine centres and the remaining 1,059 detected during contact tracing.
Cuttack district registered the highest number of fresh cases at 422, followed by Khurda (407) and Jajpur (202). (PTI)

TVS Motor expects swift recovery from Covid-19
TVS Motor Company expects a swift recovery in the market ravaged by the second wave of Covid-19, as it believes it is now better prepared to tackle supply-chain issues along with the authorities chipping in with appropriate response to deal with the pandemic.
The company, which caters to both domestic and export markets, informed its shareholders that it is well poised for growth with consumers preferring personal mobility options amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"Despite the rising second wave of active cases, the company remains confident that adverse impact would be lower and bounce back swifter," TVS Motor Company said in its Annual Report for 2020-21. (PTI)

DATA STORY: As global deaths cross 4 mn-mark, India adds 553 to the toll
India on Tuesday reported a net reduction of 17,714 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 464,357. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases now stands at 3.99 per cent (one in 25). The country is third among the most affected countries by active cases. On Monday, it added 34,703 cases to take its total caseload to 30,619,932 from 30,585,229 — an increase of 0.1%. And, with 553 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 403,281, or 1.32 per cent of total confirmed infections.
With 4,582,246 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on Monday, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 357,553,612. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 29,752,294 – or 97.17 per cent of total caseload – with 51,864 new cured cases being reported on Tuesday. Read here
