Karnataka adds 1,336 new coronavirus cases; death toll rises to 11,557

Karnataka reported 1,336 new COVID-19 cases and 16 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 8,64,140 and the death toll to 11,557, the Health department said on Tuesday. The day also saw 2,100 patients getting discharged after recovery.
 
Of the 1,336 fresh cases reported on Tuesday, 729 were from Bengaluru Urban alone. As of November 17 evening, cumulatively 8,64,140 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 11,557 deaths and 8,27,241 discharges, the Health department said in its bulletin.

Tamil Nadu reports 1,652 new coronavirus cases; state tally 761,568

Tamil Nadu added 1,652 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday,pushing its tally to 7,61,568, while 18 people succumbed to the virus taking the death toll to 11,513,the health department said on Tuesday.
 
For the second day running, Perambalur, which has been adding new cases in single digits over the past few days, reported 'zero' infections.
 
Tamil Nadu's daily tally of fresh infections fell below the 2000 mark on November 13 which saw 1,939 new COVID- 19 cases.Since then, it has been steadily declining. Meanwhile, recoveries continued to outnumber the fresh infections as 2,314 people walked out of various health care institutions, aggregating to 7,34,970 till date.

Gujarat reports 1,125 new Covid-19 cases; state tally 190,361

Gujarat's coronavirus tally rose to 1,90,361 with the addition of 1,125 new cases on Tuesday, the state health department said. As many as seven more COVID-19 patients died, taking the statewide fatalities to 3,815, it said.
 
At the same time, 1,116 patients were discharged from various hospitals in the state, pushing the number of recovered cases to 1,74,088, the department said in a release. With this, the recovery rate in Gujarat stood at 91. 45 per cent, it said, adding the state now has 12,458 active cases.

Uttarakhand's coronavirus tally rises to 68,887

Uttarakhand's COVID-19 tally rose to 68,887 on Tuesday with 429 more people testing positive for the disease, while three patients died, according to a bulletin by the state health department. Deharadun district reported the highest number of 142cases, Nainital 52, Rudraprayag 36, Pithoragarh 35, Uttarkashi 31, Pauri 23, Almora 22, Udham Singh Nagar 19, Haridwar 18, Chamoli 17, Bageshwar 14, Tehri 12 and Champawat eight, it said.
 
Meanwhile, three more coronavirus patients died in the state, taking the toll to 1,119, the bulletin said.
 
A total of 62,995 infected people have recuperated from the infection, 608 have migrated out of the state and 4,165 are undergoing treatment.

Xi Jinping offers to cooperate with India, BRICS countries to develop Covid-19 vaccine

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday offered to cooperate with India and other BRICS nations in the development of vaccines against the coronavirus and called for holding a symposium by the five-member bloc on traditional medicine to explore its role in the COVID-19 prevention and treatment.
 
"As we speak the Chinese companies are working with their Russian and Brazilian partners on phase three clinical trials for vaccines. We are prepared to have cooperation with South Africa and India as well," Xi said while addressing the 12th BRICS summit via video link.
 
The virtual summit, hosted by Russia President Vladimir Putin, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
 
"China has joined the COVAX facility and will actively consider providing vaccines to BRICS countries where there is a need," Xi said.

163 new cases push Nagaland's coronavirus tally to 10,188

Nagaland's COVID-19 tally rose to 10,188 on Tuesday as 163 more people tested positive for the infection, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said.
 
The state now has 1,134 active coronavirus cases, while 8,897 people have been cured of the disease so far, Health Department Director Dr Denis Hangsing said in the daily COVID-19 bulletin. The recovery rate in the state is witnessing a downfall since November 14 as currently it stands at 87.32 per cent as against 88.37 per cent on Monday, Hangsing said.
 
The recovery percentage in the state was 90.93 per cent on November 13. Fifty-seven coronavirus patients have died so far, of which 46 due to the contagion, six due to other ailments, while the cause of death of two others is being investigated, he said.

Sputnik V vaccine could be produced in India and China: Vladimir Putin

President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday called for a joint effort by the BRICS countries on the development of the coronavirus vaccines as he suggested that Russia's Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19 could be produced in China and India, which are members of the five-nation bloc.
 
"We believe it is important to speed up the establishment of the centre for development and research of BRICS vaccines, which we agreed to do two years ago, upon the initiative of our South African friends," Putin said while addressing the 12th BRICS summit via videoconferencing.
 
The summit, hosted by President Putin, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Putin said that Russia's Sputnik V vaccine that was registered in August could be produced in China and India, both members of the BRICS, PTI reported.

Coronavirus LIVE: Police constable succumbs to Covid-19 in Kolkata

A constable of Kolkata Police died of COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the total number of its personnel succumbing to the virus to 12, a health department official said.
 
Kolkata Police Reverse Force constable Kamal Krishna Bal (53), who had tested positive for the coronavirus a fortnight back, died at a private hospital in the morning, he said.
 
"We deeply mourn the untimely demise of constable Kamal Krishna Bal, who was posted in the Reverse Force. He was affected with COVID-19 and was at the forefront of our #FightAgainstCorona," the Kolkata Police later tweeted.

Coronavirus latest update: Rajasthan records 2,194 cases and 11 deaths

Rajasthan recorded 2,194 fresh coronavirus cases and 11 deaths on Tuesday, taking the total number of positive cases to 2,30,180 and fatalities to 2,089. According to an official bulletin, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Sikar reported two deaths each and Ajmer, Churu, Karauli, Kota and Pali recorded one death each. Jaipur reported maximum of the fresh cases with 484 people contracting the virus there.
 
The rest of the fresh cases were reported from Ajmer (180), Alwar (247), Banswara (7), Baran (7), Barmer (7), Bharatpur (87), Bhilwara (67), Bikaner (122), Bundi (16), Chittorgarh (15), Churu (11), Dholpur (6), Dungarpur (20), Ganganagar (8), Hanumangarh (4), Jaisalmer (25), Jalore (15), Jhalawar (17), Jhunjhunu (23), Jodhpur (317), Karauli (11), Kota (147), Nagaur (94), Pali (55), Pratapgarh (8), Rajsamand (6), Sawaimadhopur(39 )Sikar (33), Tonk (30) and Udaipur (86).

Madhya Pradesh's coronavirus tally rises to 185,446

Madhya Pradesh's coronavirus caseload rose to 1,85,446 after 922 new infections were reported on Tuesday, while 10 fresh deaths pushed the toll to 3,102. At least 848 people were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the state's recovery count to 1,73,284.
 
While two patients died in Indore, one each succumbed in Bhopal, Khargone, Hoshangabad, Dhar, Rewa, Damoh, Khandwa and Umaria since Monday evening.
