Mumbai logs over 10,000 coronavirus cases for second day, 23 die

Mumbai reported 10,428 new coronavirus cases and 23 fresh fatalities on Wednesday, which took its caseload to 4,82,760 and death toll to 11,851, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
 
This is for the second consecutive day that the city has reported more than 10,000 infections. For the third time this month, it has witnessed a single-day case growth in five digits.
 
On Tuesday, the country's financial capital had recorded 10,030 new COVID-19 cases and 31 fatalities, while on Sunday, it had reported 1,1163 new cases, the highest since the pandemic began.

Centre asks states, UTs to prepare Covid-19 vaccination at workplace from Sunday

In order to increase the access of vaccines to people above 45 years of age, COVID-19 vaccination sessions will be organised at public and private workplaces having about 100 eligible and willing beneficiaries by tagging these workplaces with an existing vaccination centre, the union health ministry has informed.
 
Such workplace vaccination centres may be launched across states and union territories from Sunday.

Kerala reports 3,502 new coronavirus positive cases in a day

Kerala reported 3,502 new COVID-19 cases and 16 more deaths on Wednesday, pushing the caseload to 11,44,594 and the toll to 4,710. The State health department said it tested 60,554 samples in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate was 5.78 per cent.
 
Till now, 1,35,14,740 samples have been tested. Meanwhile, 1,955 people recuperated from the disease on Wednesday, taking the total cured in the state to 11,08,078. Currently, there are 31,493 people under treatment in the state and 1,52,136 under observation, of which, 4,928 are in isolation wards of various hospitals.

Night curfew: Delhiites opting for walk-in vaccination will need e-pass

COVID-19 vaccination beneficiaries choosing to go for walk-in vaccination facility will have to acquire an e-pass to travel during the night curfew hours in Delhi, officials said on Wednesday.
 
The Delhi government on Tuesday imposed a night curfew in the national capital from 10 pm to 5 am till April 30 in view of rising COVID-19 cases.
 
The city had recorded 5,100 fresh cases on Tuesday, while 17 more people succumbed to the infection taking the toll to 11,113, according to the Delhi health department.

The government will allow COVID-19 vaccination at public and private workplaces having about 100 eligible beneficiaries from April 11 across states and Union territories.
 
Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan in a letter to the chief secretaries said a substantial proportion of population aged 45 years and above is in the organised sector of the economy and is involved in formal occupation in offices (government and private) or manufacturing and services.
 
"in order to increase the access of vaccine to these populations, COVID-19 vaccination sessions may be organised at work places (both public & private) which are having about 100 eligible and willing beneficiaries by tagging these work places with an existing COVID vaccination centre," Bhushan said in the letter. He said the states can initiate due consultations with private/public sector employers and management to prepare for launch of work place vaccination.
