Returnee from India dies of Covid-19 in Nepal

A 45-year-old Nepali man, who had returned from India earlier in the month, died of COVID-19 at a hospital in northwestern Nepal on Wednesday.
 
The deceased had returned from India's Gujarat on April 4. After a positive report for coronavirus, he was admitted to the Mahakali Hospital in Kanchanpur district.
 
Chief District Officer, Kanchanpur, Shivaraj Sunar said the man died while undergoing treatment.

Karnataka administers over 5 million coronavirus vaccine: Health dept

Amid a surge in coronavirus cases, Karnataka has inoculated over 50 lakh people, said the Health Department on Wednesday. A total of 50,16,695 vaccinations have been administered so far with the first and second dose, the department said.
 
Revealing this, state Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar tweeted, "Karnataka crossed 50 lakh inoculations today. As of 2 pm today, 45,13,857 people received their first dose of vaccine and 5,02,838 people both doses of vaccine." 

The vaccination drive is underway at 6,173 sites across the state, including the 5,564 government and 609 private centres, he said. People keen on getting inoculated came at a time when the COVID-19 cases exceeded 6,000 and 39 deaths were reported across the state on Tuesday alone.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Wednesday claimed the metropolis, which is witnessing a surge in coronavirus cases, is running out of vaccine doses and demanded that the Centre step up supplies immediately.
 
Speaking to reporters here, Pednekar said Mumbai had only 1.76 lakh doses of Covishield, the mainstay of the vaccination drive, till Tuesday afternoon and this figure could have gone down by now.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that identity cards will be issued to all corona volunteers in the state by the district administrations. He was speaking to different sections of the society via video conferencing during his 24-hour health satyagraha.

Covid-19 surge: Punjab CM extends night curfew to entire state, bans political gatherings

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday announced extension of night curfew to the entire state and a ban on political gatherings till April 30, while slamming his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal and SAD's Sukhbir Badal for their "irresponsible conduct" in attending rallies without following COVID-19 protocol.
 
Making it clear that those violating the ban on political gatherings, including leaders, will be booked under the Disaster Management Act and the Epidemic Diseases Act, Singh said he has been forced to order the ban on political gatherings as his pleas to parties to refrain from organising such events had been ignored.

Pakistan passes 15,000 coronavirus deaths

Pakistan on Wednesday passed the grim milestone of 15,000 Covid-19-related deaths as the country struggles to contain the spread of the virus amid a third wave of the pandemic. The death toll now stands at 15,026, with 102 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
 
The total number of cases reached 700,188 with the addition of 4,004 new infections, reports dpa news agency.
 
Authorities have put virus hotspots under lockdown, arrested dozens of people for not wearing face masks, and sealed restaurants and shops for violating restrictions. On Tuesday, authorities decided to keep most schools closed for another three weeks.

Gujarat cops collect Rs 2.6 crore from Covid-19 norms violators in four days

The Gujarat police have collected fines worth Rs 2.66 crore in four days from people failing to wear masks and those spitting in public places amid the COVID-19 pandemic, an official said on Wednesday. The fines were collected between April 2 and April 5, the official said, adding that a penalty of Rs 1,000 has been imposed on violators of the mask rule.
 
According to a release issued by the state police, on an average, around 6,600 people were fined every day from April 2 to April 5 for COVID-19-related violations in Gujarat.

India has surpassed the US to become the fastest COVID-19 vaccinating country in the world with an average daily rate of 30,93,861 vaccine doses,the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

No Covid lockdown in Goa, move will disrupt economic activities: CM

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday reiterated that the coastal state will not go for a lockdown, as the move will disrupt the economic activities.
 
Sawant recalled that during the same time last year, the state had been under a coronavirus-induced lockdown, due to which the entire economy had come to a standstill. Economic activities are getting revived in the coastal state and another lockdown will disrupt them, he said.
