Over 127 mn coronavirus vaccine doses administered so far: Health Ministry

India has administered more than 126 million coronavirus vaccine doses to eligible beneficiaries till Monday evening, the Union Health Ministry said.
 
Total 73,600 Covid-19 Vaccination Centres (CVCs) were operational on Monday, the highest so far, it said, adding that on an average 45,000 CVCs were functional on any given day earlier.
 
Workplace vaccinations have also enabled such a high turnout of beneficiaries, the ministry said in a statement. Read on...

DATA STORY: India's active Covid cases go past 200,000; recovery rate down at 85.56%

India on Tuesday reported a net increase of 102,648 in active coronavirus cases to take its count past the 200,000 mark, at 2,031,977. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases now stands at 11.14 per cent (one in 9). The country is second among the most affected countries by active cases. UK, mutant Covid-19 strains found in samples tested in Uttarakhand

Two UK strains and a mutant strain of coronavirus were found in three samples which were sent for testing to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Delhi from Dehradun.
 
"Out of the three samples sent in March for testing NCDC Delhi, two UK strain and other mutant strain of coronavirus have been found. This virus spreads more than the normal virus," said Dr Deepak Juyal, VRDL lab of Doon Medical College, Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
 
Meanwhile, the state government has imposed a night curfew from 9 pm to 5 am in all districts of Uttarakhand in view of a spike in Covid-19 cases.

US advises its citizens to avoid travelling to India due to Covid spike

The US has advised its citizens to avoid travelling to India, even if they are fully vaccinated as there is a 'very high level' of Covid-19 in the country.
 
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) on Monday released travel recommendations by destination. It uses science-based Travel Health Notices to alert travellers to health threats around the world and advise on how to protect themselves.
 
The CDC has a 4-level system for Covid-19 and in that India is placed in 'Level 4: Very high level of Covid-19'.
 
In the note Monday, the department noted that "the Covid-19 pandemic continues to pose unprecedented risks to travellers."
 
The CDC has urged Americans to avoid all travel to India.

Arunachal logs 65 fresh coronavirus cases, tally up at 17,052

Arunachal Pradesh reported 65 fresh Covid-19 cases, including seven security personnel and a health worker, pushing the tally to 17,052, a senior official said on Tuesday.
 
The landlocked state now has 176 active cases, while 16,820 patients have recovered from the disease so far, he said.
 
The death toll remained at 56.
 
The Capital Complex Region -- comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas -- has the highest number of active cases at 72, followed by Lower Dibang Valley district (40), East Siang (14) and West Kameng (13), among others, the official said.

Delhi Metro shuts gates at some stations as city locks down over Covid-19

To ensure social distancing, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday temporarily closed entry points of several metro stations.
 
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced a six-day lockdown in Delhi to deal with the rising number of COVID-19 cases as the city's health system was stretched to its limits.
 
 
"Entry for the following stations have been temporarily closed to ensure social distancing as part of our crowd control measures: Jhandewalan, R K Ashram Marg, Karkardooma, Preet Vihar, Nirman Vihar, Supreme Court, Anand Vihar, ISBT, Vaishali," the DMRC said in a series tweet. Read on...

Kerala to impose night curfew from 9 pm to 6 am from today in view of the sharp increase in Covid-19 cases

The Kerala government on Monday decided to impose night curfew from 9 pm to 6 am from April 20 in view of the sharp increase in Covid-19 cases in the state.
 
The decision in this regard was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Dr V P Joy, this evening.
 
 
Kerala had logged 18,257 cases on Sunday, pushing the infection load to 12.39 lakh.
 
The government has also directed all domestic travellers coming to the state to undergo RT-PCR tests.
