Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin extends Rs 4,000 Covid-19 assistance scheme
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has ordered a payout of Rs 2,000, the first instalment of the Rs 4,000 pandemic assistance plan, also to people who have newly received their rice category ration cards, the government said on Tuesday.
Now, 2,14,950 new rice ration cards that have been issued have come under use and Stalin has ordered payment of the first instalment to such families as well, a government release said.
The payment, to families covered under the two lakh plus new cards, would be disbursed this month at an estimated cost of Rs 42.99 crore. Stalin has already ordered disbursal of first instalment in May to 2,07,66,950 rice card holders at a cost of Rs 4,153.39 crore. The Rs 4,000 COVID-19 cash assistance to people holding rice cards is an electoral promise of the DMK.

Odisha extends lockdown till June 1 as active coronavirus cases top 100,000
Odisha government on Tuesday announced further extension of lockdown from May 19 till June 1 as the active cases in the state soared past 100,000.
However, essential shops will allowed to function from 7 am to 11 am. On weekends, there will be a complete shutdown, starting 6 pm on Fridays till 5 am of Mondays.The state recorded over 10,000 new infections in a day and it has been consistently reporting 10,000 to 12,000 cases for the past few days. Covid LIVE: 4,482 new cases, 265 more deaths in Delhi; positivity rate drops to 6.89%
The national capital reported 4,482, lowest since April 5, and 265 fatalities on Tuesday while the positivity rate dipped to 6.89 per cent, according to the latest health bulletin released by the city government.
The COVID-19 situation has been improving in Delhi with the number of cases and positivity rate going down steadily in the past few days. Medical experts have attributed the lockdown as the main factor behind the dip amid the second wave of the pandemic.
However, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday extended the lockdown till May 24, saying the gains made so far in combating coronavirus cannot be lost due to relaxations now.

Daily Covid-19 recoveries more than 4 lakh for first time in country
India has recorded more than 4 lakh daily COVID-19 recoveries in a single day for the first time, while new coronavirus infections settled below 3 lakh for the second day, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
A total of 4,22,436 patients have recuperated in a span of 24 hours, taking India's cumulative recoveries to 2,15,96,512.
Average daily recovery of more than 3,55,944 cases has been recorded in the last 14 days, the ministry said. A total of 2,63,533 new cases were registered in a day.

Covid LIVE: Over 10k cases in Odisha in a day; lockdown extended to June 1
Odisha's COVID-19 caseload surged to 6,33,302 on Tuesday after 10,321 more people tested positive for the infection, while 22 fresh fatalities pushed the toll to 2,357, a health department official said. Accordingly, the number of active cases climbed to 1,04,539, he said.
Of the 10,321 new cases, 5,779 were reported from various quarantine centres and the rest detected during contact tracing, the official said. Khurda district, of which state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, reported the maximum number of new cases at 1,566, followed by Sundergarh at 819 and Cuttack at 731.

All 86 of its Covid hospitals to soon have oxygen plants: Railways
All 86 of railways' COVID hospitals will soon have oxygen plants of their own, the national transporter said on Tuesday. A statement from the ministry said that it was planning massive capacity enhancement in 86 railway hospitals across India which have been identified as COVID hospitals.
