'Serious concern' over Covid-19 situation in 11 states/UTs: Centre
The Central government on Friday said that the coronavirus situation in 11 states/Union Territories is a matter of "serious concern" and urged the Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police concerned to take appropriate action in this regard.
The directions were given during a review meeting Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba held with Chief Secretaries, DGP and Health Secretaries of Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Haryana.
These states and Union Territories have been reporting a very high rise in daily Covid cases and mortalities in the last two weeks. India recorded 81,466 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, the highest since October 2020.

Karnataka reports 4,991 fresh coronavirus cases, six deaths
The surge in COVID-19 cases in Karnataka continued with the state on Friday logging 4,991 cases, the bulk of it from Bengaluru, pushing the caseload to just over 10 lakh, while six deaths took the toll to 12,591, the health department said.
Bengaluru alone accounted for 3,509 cases and five deaths. The other fatality was reported from Kalaburagi.
The day also saw 1,631 patients getting discharged after recovery. A total of over 2.16 crore samples have been tested so far, out of which 1,18,933 were done on Friday alone.

Andhra Pradesh continues to report over 1,000 Covid-19 cases per day
Covid-19 cases continue to surge in Andhra Pradesh as the state reported 1,288 new cases on Friday taking the total tally above 9.04 lakh while the active cases now stand at 8,815, the health bulletin said.
Meanwhile, 610 persons have also recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries over 8.85 lakh in the state so far.
As per the health bulletin, 31,116 tests were conducted on Friday. With 311 new cases, Guntur reported the highest number while Chittoor reported 225, Visakhapatnam (191) and Krishna (164).
