Pakistan, Bangladesh added to UK's Covid-19 travel ban list

Pakistan and Bangladesh are among four additional countries added to the "red list" of nations from where travel to and from England is banned to control the spread of coronavirus, PTI reported.
 
The ban announced on Friday will come into effect from April 9 and also cover the Philippines and Kenya in response to concerns about new variants of COVID-19 in those regions, like those detected in South Africa and Brazil.
 
India currently is not on the red list of countries, with an air bubble arrangement in operation for essential travel while non-essential international travel from the UK remains banned under current lockdown rules.

Olympic torch relay may be cancelled in areas with high Covid-19 cases

Tokyo 2020 President Seiko Hashimoto said on Friday that the Olympic Games organizing committee is flexible for the cancellation of the torch relay in the area where the infection cases surges, AP reported.
 
"There is a team that has declined to participate (the torch relay). As the virus situation in each area has been changing constantly, we need to make a decision as soon as possible but also be flexible to the last minute change if it happens," said Hashimoto during a regular press conference held in the capital.
 
The committee is planning on finalizing the number of spectators in Japan by the end of April.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra went into self-isolation after her husband Robert Vadra tested positive for COVID-19. She, however, has tested negative.
 
The Congress leader released a video in which she said: "My yesterday's report has come negative but on the advice of doctors, I will be in isolation for the next few days. I apologise to all of you for this inconvenience. I pray for Congress' victory." she said.
 
"Recently, due to exposure to coronavirus, I have to cancel my Assam tour," she further said.

Restaurants, bars, malls to be shut for week in Pune

Eateries, bars and restaurants in Pune district of Maharashtra will remain shut for seven days starting April 3 in view of a substantial rise in coronavirus cases of late, a senior official said on Friday.
 
A curfew will be in place across the district from 6 pm to 6 am, and malls, cinema halls and places of religious worship will also be shut during this seven-day period, he said.
 
The administration introduced these "stricter restrictions" in the district, which reported more than 8,000 COVID-19 cases in the past two consecutive days. The decision to impose these curbs was taken during a review meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar here on Friday.

UP schools closed till April 11 for students of classes 1-8 amid spike in Covid-19 cases

With the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government on Friday extended the closure of all schools for the student of class one to eight to April 11. Others are directed to follow the COVID-19 norms strictly.
 
Earlier, chief minister Yogi Adityanath had ordered the closure of schools for students up to Class 8 till April 8. The new instructions are being issued by CM Yogi in his meeting with top officials.
 
Apart from this, CM Yogi also ordered officials to raise the number of COVID-19 testings in UP. At present, there are 11,918 active coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh, as per the Union Health Ministry. 8,820 people have lost their lives due to the virus in the state, while 59,90,45 have recovered from the disease.

Covid-19 surge: Lockdown in parts of four districts of Madhya Pradesh

The Madhya Pradesh government has placed urban areas of Chhindwara district and Ratlam city under lockdown, while it will come into force in Betul district and parts of Khargone from Friday night to prevent the spread of coronavirus, officials said.
 
The lockdown in Chhindwara's urban areas and Ratlam city came into force from 10 pm on Thursday, which will continue till 6 am on April 5, they said.
 
The entire Betul district will be placed under lockdown from 10 pm on Friday and urban areas of Khargone district from 8 pm. The curbs there will continue till 6 am on April 5, the officials said.

UP cop tests positive for Covid-19 weeks after second vaccine shot

A senior police officer, who took his second coronavirus vaccine dose last month, and his wife have tested positive for COVID-19. Inspector General of Police (IG) Rajesh Pandey shared a Facebook post on Thursday, saying he, his wife and a policeman deployed for his security have tested positive for the disease. The officer also requested all those who came in contact with him recently to get tested.
 
Pandey's son had tested positive for COVID-19 three days ago.
 
"I took first jab of the vaccine on February 5 and the second one on March 5. My wife is yet to take the second jab," Pandey said, adding that his personal security guard has also taken both doses of the vaccine.
