Lockdown in Chhattisgarh's Durg district from Apr 6 to 14 amid Covid-19 surge
The administration in Chhattisgarh's Durg district on Friday announced a complete lockdown from April 6 to 14, in light of the spike in COVID-19 cases in the region, an official said. District Collector Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure said in view of the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases, it has become necessary to break the chain of transmission by imposing a lockdown and public support is required for it.
The lockdown will be imposed from April 6 to April 14, the statement issued by the district administration said.
The statement, however, did not mention which activities will be allowed and restricted during this period.

Pak reports over 5,000 Covid-19 cases, highest single day spike in 10 months
Pakistan reported more than 5,000 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, the highest single day spike since June last year, the health ministry said on Friday. The Ministry of National Health Services said that 83 people died in this period, taking the death toll to 14,613.
The COVID-19 tally reached 678,165 with 5,234 more individuals contracting the contagion, it said. The new cases were the highest since June 20 last year. Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths followed by Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Most numbers of cases have been reported in Sindh.

India administers over 36 lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses in 24 hours
A total of 36,71,242 Covid-19 vaccines doses were administered in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed on Friday.
Out of which 33,65,597 beneficiaries were vaccinated for the first dose and 3,05,645 beneficiaries received the second dose.
With this, a total of 6,87,89,138 coronavirus vaccines doses have been administered in India to date. The third phase of coronavirus vaccination for all above 45 years began across the country on Thursday.

Over 25 world leaders call for international pandemic treaty: WHO chief
Over 25 leaders from "the G20, G7 and from every region" have unanimously called for an international treaty for pandemic preparedness and response, the World Health Organisation (WHO) chief said.

Global Covid-19 caseload tops 129.4 million: Johns Hopkins University
The overall number of global Covid-19 cases has surpassed 129.4 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.82 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
In its latest update on Friday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 129,475,545 and 2,826,018, respectively.
The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 30,538,427 and 553,120, respectively, according to the CSSE. Read on...
