Philippines logs 11,378 new Covid-19 cases

The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported on Monday 11,378 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 876,225.
 
The death toll climbed to 15,149 after 204 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said.There are now 157,451 active cases in the country, the DOH added.
 
The Philippines, with a population of about 110 million, has tested over 10 million people since the outbreak of the pandemic in January 2020. (PTI)

Mumbai to get Covid centres in 5-star hotels, 3 field hospitals

Struggling to cope up with the massive corona patient load, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday decided to convert some Four-star and Five-star hotels as Covid centres and will also set up 3 new jumbo field hospitals in the city.
 
Municipal Commissioner I.S. Chahal said that some 5/4 star hotels in the city and suburbs are being requisitioned immediately to create Covid Care Centre-2 facilities for Corona positive patients.
 
"These will be dovetailed and run by professionals from major private hospitals. It will make a large number of beds available to new needy patients by shifting substantially recovered patients quickly to these CCC2 facilities to be managed by medicos," Chahal told IANS. Read here

MP govt offers space to pvt hospitals for Covid-19 treatment

The Madhya Pradesh government has offered to provide space to private hospitals to set up their medical facilities in a bid to increase the number of beds for Covid-19 patients, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Monday.
 
Talking to reporters here, Chouhan also said the supply of Remdevisir injections would be normalised within the next two or three days as the government has started procuring the key anti-viral drug.
 
The demand for the drug has gone up in the wake of a surge in Covid-19 cases.

Living Covid patient declared dead in Bihar

A case has come to light at Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) where a living person infected with Covid-19 was declared dead and a death certificate issued to his family members.
 
A doctor at PMCH said Chunnu Kumar, a resident of Bihar's Mohammadpur near the Barh police station, was admitted to the hospital on April 9 after suffering a brain haemorrhage. He underwent a coronavirus test for which he tested positive during the course of the treatment. He was then admitted to a corona ward and treatment was started.
 
The victim's wife and brother were informed by the hospital administration on Sunday that Chunnu had died. In a rush to remove the body after the death, the hospital administration sealed the body of the patient and handed it over to Chunnu's brother Manoj Kumar and also issued a death certificate. (IANS)

Kumbh Mela: Thousands take dip in Ganga amid rising cases

Amid rising coronavirus cases in the country, thousands of saffron-clad seers and ash-smeared Nagas flouted Covid-19 norms and converged at Har Ki Pairi here for a holy dip in the Ganga during the second royal bath of the Kumbh Mela on Monday.
 
The seers of different akhadas, led by their Mahamandaleshwaras, by turns took out grand Shobha Yatras through the main thoroughfare of the pilgrimage city to gather at Brahma Kund, Hari ki Pairi for the holy bath on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya.
 
Marching barefoot to their destination with many of them not wearing masks or observing social distancing, the seers took a dip in the river as they were showered with flower petals from helicopters flying above on behalf of the Uttarakhand government. (PTI)
