Uttarakhand records nine more Covid-19 deaths, 1,540 new cases

A total of 1,540 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Uttarakhand on Wednesday, taking the state's infection tally to 35,947 while nine patients died, a state health department bulletin said.
 
Dehradun district reported the highest number of 429 cases, Haridwar 363, Udham Singh Nagar 246, Nainital 118, Almora 97, Bageshwar 84, Pitgoragarh 55, Pauri 51, Uttarkashi 47, Chamoli 31, Tehri 12, Rudraprayag 7, it said.
 
Meanwhile, nine more Covid patients died, taking the toll to 447.

Kerala logs single-day highest spike of 3,830 Covid-19 cases

A single-day highest ever spike of 3,830 Covid-19 cases in Kerala took the state's infection count to 1,17,863 on Wednesday, the government said. The state also recorded 14 deaths, taking the toll due to the disease to 480, Health Minister K K Shailaja said.
 
"Out of those infected today, 49 came from abroad, 153 from other states while 3,562 contracted the virus through contacts. At least 66 health workers are also infected," she said in a release here.
 
Among the districts, Thiruvananthapuram logged the highest number 675 cases, followed by Kozhikode (468), Alappuzha (323) Ernakulam (319) and Kollam with 300 cases.

Hypertension most common comorbidity among Covid patients: AIIMS

AIIMS Delhi, recorded underlying health conditions or comorbidities in 98.5 per cent of coronavirus patients admitted to the hospital for treatment in September with hypertension being the most common form.
 
There is a grave interlink between comorbidities and coronavirus infection. Patients with hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, chronic obstructive lung, carcinoma or chronic kidney disease have higher chance of succumbing to the disease, according to public health experts.
 
According to Animesh Ray, Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at AIIMS, "In September, 137 patients were admitted to AIIMS, and comorbidities were present in 98.5 per cent of them. There was presence of comorbidities in almost all the patients, barring two."
 
Ray said that hypertension was the most common form of ailment in the patients, followed by diabetes and malignancy.

Delhi records 4,473 new Covid-19 cases, highest single-day spike so far

Delhi recorded the highest single-day spike of 4,473 fresh coronavirus cases pushing the caseload to more than 2.30 lakh on Wednesday, authorities said. As many as 62,593 tests were conducted the previous day, according to Delhi government's health bulletin.
 
The bulletin said that the death toll has risen to 4,839 with 33 fatalities. Four of the 33 fatalities are from the previous days.
 
The total number of cases stands at 2,30,269, of which 30,914 are active cases and 1,94,516 have recovered, migrated out of the city or discharged.

Noida reports 223 new Covid-19 cases, tally at 10,705 now

Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar on Wednesday recorded 223 new Covid-19 cases, taking the district's infection tally to 10,705, official data showed.
 
The number of active cases rose to 1,966 from 1,928 on Tuesday, according to the data released by the UP Health Department for a 24-hour period. On the brighter side, 185 more patients got discharged during the period and the total number of recoveries in the district reached 8,691, the data showed.
 
The district, adjoining Delhi, has so far recorded 48 deaths linked to the pandemic, with one of the lowest mortality rates 0.44 per cent -- in the state, it showed.

Nagpur district records 2,052 new Covid-19 cases; 60 more die

Maharashtra's Nagpur district on Wednesday registered 2,052 new coronavirus cases, taking its tally to 57,482, the local administration said. A District Information Office release said 60 more coronavirus patients succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, pushing up the death toll to 1,815.
 
Also, 1,594 people were discharged, taking the number of recoveries to 43,927, it said.
 
The number of active cases in the district stood at 11,740, the release added.

Steel plants supplying medical oxygen for Covid-19 treatment: Govt

Stepping up fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, steel companies are supplying medical oxygen from their plants to various hospitals across the country, the steel ministry said on Wednesday.
 
The ministry recently made operational a portal wherein plant-wise information regarding availability of oxygen and daily supply by various plants and states to which such supplies have been made is provided.
 
According to a ministry statement, the states which have received oxygen from the steel plants are Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Haryana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.

Belarus reports 211 new Covid-19 cases, tally at 74,763

Belarus reported 211 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the nationwide count to 74,763, according to the country's Health ministry. According to Xinhua news agency, there have been 149 new recoveries in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 72,810, the ministry added.
 
So far, 767 people have died of the disease in the country, including six over the past 24 hours, it said.

Odisha to set up Covid testing camp for MLAs before Assembly session begins

The Odisha government on Wednesday issued instructions for setting up a camp where MLAs, their personal security officers (PSO) and drivers, besides staff of the Assembly will be tested for Covid-19 before the next session of the House begins on September 29.
 
The Health and Family Welfare Department also asked the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), state-run Capital Hospital and the Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited (OSMCL), a procurement agency, to observe all safety measures during the session which will continue till October 7.
 
"As per direction of the Assembly Speaker, the RT-PCR test of all the members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly along with their PSOs and drivers will be conducted from 7.30 am to 9.30 am on September 27 and 28 on the Assembly premises by a team of doctors," Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, P K Mohapatra said.

Indonesia reports 3,963 fresh Covid-19 cases, 135 new deaths

With 3,963 new Covid cases, Indonesia's tally mounted to 228,993, while the death toll reached 9,100 with 135 new fatalities, the Health ministry said on Wednesday.
 
According to the ministry, 3,036 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 164,101, Xinhua news agency reported. The virus has spread to all the country's 34 provinces.

J&K reports 1,590 new Covid-19 cases, 11 deaths

Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday recorded 1,590 fresh Covid-19 cases, while 18 deaths took place in the last 24 hours, officials said. The total number of cases in the union territory has now risen to 58,244 and the death toll increased to 932, they said.
 
The UT recorded 1,590 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours with 832 in Jammu and 768 in Kashmir valley," the officials said. It was for the 14th consecutive day that the number of fresh cases has crossed 1,000 in a 24-hour period, they said.
