Former UP Governor Ram Naik tests positive for coronavirus
Former Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik has tested positive for coronavirus, a statement from his office said on Monday.
He is under home quarantine and his health is improving steadily, it said.
"Shri Ram Naik, former Governor of Uttar Pradesh, is found to be corona positive. He has home quarantined himself. Shri Naik had fever and therefore was tested immediately and found to be positive, the statement said.
Naik had served as a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government at the Centre.

Covid-19: Maharashtra, UP, 8 other states account for over 78% of new cases
Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan are among the 10 states that account for78.58 per centof the new Covid-19 cases reported in a day, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday.
India's daily cases continue to soar and a record single-day rise of 273,810 new coronavirus infections have been registered in a span of 24 hours.
The other states in the list of 10 are Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Maharashtra has reported the highest daily new cases at 68,631. It is followed by Uttar Pradesh with 30,566 while Delhi reported 25,462 new cases. Read on...

Mayawati urges Centre to maintain supply of medical oxygen to hospitals
Considering the inadequate supply of Remdesivir and medical oxygen for treating Covid-19 patients, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati on Monday requested Central government to give special attention on keeping the supply of medical oxygen smooth and also import the medicines and oxygen so that supply is not disrupted in the hospitals.
"In view of the acute shortage of coronavirus vaccine and oxygen in hospitals in various states of the country, I request the Central government to pay special attention on priority. For this if the vaccines need to be imported, the Centre should do it," she said in a tweet.
The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh also appealed people to follow Covid protocol issued by state governments.
"Simultaneously, I reque people to strictly adhere to Covid guideline issued by state governments so that the outbreak of the virus can be prevented," she said.

Considering the steep rise of Covid cases in the city, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has cancelled all 'big rallies' in Kolkata and has slashed the timing of the rallies in the districts.
She will be restricting herself in one meeting and fewer gatherings 'where cases are lower'. She has also urged her party colleagues to scale down their campaign in parts of Kolkata that will go to polls in the next two phases on April 26 and 29.

Maharashtra administers 127,079 Covid-19 vaccine in last 24 hours
Maharashtra vaccinated 1,27,079 people in the last 24 hours against the Covid-19 in 1,515 sessions, informed the Maharashtra Health Department on Monday.
With this, the total number of people vaccinated in the state touched 1,22,83,050.
As per state government data, these include 10,67,486 HCWs who have taken the 1st dose and 5,42,627 HCWs who have taken the 2nd dose, 11,13,691 FLWs (1st dose), 3,67,965 FLWs (2nd dose), 87,86,940 first dose beneficiaries and 4,04,341 second dose beneficiaries of more than 45 years old. Read on...
