Telangana reports 5,093 new coronavirus cases, 15 deaths

Covid-19 cases in Telangana breached the 5,000-mark with 5,093 fresh infections, the highest ever in a single day spike pushing the tally to over 3.51 lakh, PTI reported. The death toll rose to 1,824 with 15 more fatalities. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation accounted for the most number of cases with 743, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri (488) and Rangareddy (407), a government bulletin said on Sunday.

Delhi asks Kumbh returnees to quarantine at home for 14 days

The Delhi government has issued an order making it mandatory for all residents who visit the Kumbh in Haridwar to quarantine themselves at home for fourteen days on return. Anyone who violates the order will face legal action, said the government, according to news agency ANI.

BJP alleges Maharashtra govt harassing drug firm

Mumbai police said they questioned the director of a drug company for stocking 60,000 vials of Remdesivir used in treating Covid-19, prompting the BJP to allege harassment. Devendra Fadnavis, the former BJP chief minister, alleged the police had detained the Bruck Pharma executive because Opposition parties had contacted the company to help in Remdesivir supply. Police said the executive was let off after Bruck Pharma "produced necessary documents" to show that it was allowed to stock the drug.

Maharashtra govt harassing Remdesivir supplier: Devendra Fadnavis

Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra's Leader of Opposition, alleged the state government was harassing a supplier of Remdesivir in union territory Daman because BJP leaders had approached him for supply of the antiviral medication to the state. "...some ministers have nothing to do with the troubles of people suffering from coronavirus pandemic. They are more interested in indulging in politics,” said Fadnavis in Mumbai Saturday night.

Canada reports second clot after AstraZeneca shot

A Bloomberg report says the Canadian province of Alberta reported a case of blood clotting after an AstraZeneca vaccine. It is the second clot case in Canada out of total of 700,000 AstraZeneca doses administered, Deena Hinshaw, the province’s chief medical officer, said in a statement Saturday. The patient, a male in his 60s, is recovering from treatment.
