After 170 days, intra-state public transport resumes in Tamil Nadu
Public transportation across Tamil Nadu started on Monday after 170 days. The development is seen as significant, especially for the state economy, considering the state is known for its high intra-state migration.
All the intra-state and inter-district transportation started today morning. The State Express Transport Corporation (SETC), which caters to long distance commuters, has started the service with non-AC buses linking various parts of the state with Chennai. Train services -in addition to special trains from Chennai- also started in various parts of the state. Metro trains also restarted their services with state industry minister, M C Sampath among one of the early passengers. Read on...

Tamil Nadu coronavirus update: State tally crosses 460,000 with 5783 fresh cases
Tamil Nadu recorded 5783 positive cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the state tally to 4,63,480. Among these, Chennai reported 955 positive cases, bringing the city's total to 1,41,654.
Tamil Nadu recorded 88 deaths on Sunday, putting the state toll at 7836. 82 of them had succumbed due to comorbidities. The state discharged 5820 patients following treatment today, putting the total number of recoveries at 4,04,186.
As of Sunday, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu is 51,458. Till date, 2,79,704 males, 1,83,747 females and 29 transgenders have tested positive for the virus in the state.
According to a bulletin released by the Health and Family Welfare Department of Tamil Nadu, 52,98,508 samples from the state have been sent for testing till date, with 85,974 samples having been sent yesterday.

Beijing holds trade fair since coronavirus; organisers report huge turn-out
Organisers reported strong turnout at an event in Beijing billed as the first hybrid online and in-person trade show staged since the coronavirus pandemic began.
A total of 95,000 visitors attended the 2020 China International Fair for Trade in Services on Saturday, the first full day of the exhibition, with just 60,000 allowed into its venues at any given time in keeping with social distancing rules.
The fair is being held as China's economy has largely restarted, despite the devastating blow to many industries from a months-long shutdown and the loss of domestic demand and foreign orders.

Bengaluru coronavirus: First case of Covid-19 reinfection reported in private hospital
In possibly the first case of Covid-19 reinfection in Bengaluru, a 27-year-old woman who recovered from the infection has contracted the virus again, in the span of a month, a private hospital said. The case has been confirmed at Fortis Hospital in Bannerghatta Road. Dr Pratik Patil, consultant, Infectious Diseases, at the hospital said the patient was discharged on July 24. “However, nearly after a month, in the last week of August, she developed mild symptoms again and has tested positive again,” he said. “This is possibly the first reported case of Covid-19 reinfection in Bengaluru,” Dr Patil stated.

UNICEF to lead global procurement, supply of COVID-19 vaccines
In what could possibly be the world’s largest and fastest ever operation of its kind, UNICEF has announced that it will be leading the procurement and supply of coronavirus vaccines to ensure that all countries have safe, fast and equitable access to initial doses when they are available. UNICEF will also serve as procurement coordinator to support purchases by 80 higher-income economies, which have expressed their intent to participate in the COVAX Facility and would finance the vaccines from their own budgets, it said.
The vaccine procurement and distribution effort, involving over 170 economies, has the potential to become the world’s largest and fastest ever operation of its kind.
