Dining in restaurants may increase Covid-19 spread risk: Study

In a study related to novel coronavirus, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found that people who are dining at a restaurant at a higher risk of Covid-19 transmission than some other community activities.
 

Fro the findings, the research team examined data from adults at 11 facilities across the nation who tested positive for COvid-19 and compared that with a control group of adults without virus infection.

Molecular Partners completes manufacturing runs in bid for Covid-19 drug

Switzerland's Molecular Partners, which is hoping to produce an antiviral drug against Covid-19, said on Monday that it had completed initial manufacturing runs for its candidate MP0420 that it aims to test in humans starting in November.
 

"It is essential to demonstrate the ability to manufacture and deploy these medicines," said Chief Executive Patrick Amstutz.

Single-day Covid-19 cases hit record high: WHO

The number of single-day coronavirus cases globally has hit a new record high, said the World Health Organization (WHO).
 

In a statement on Sunday, the WHO said that there were 307,930 new cases globally in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day figure ever registered and about 1,000 more than the previous recording-setting daily caseload a week earlier, reports Xinhua news agency.

Dearth of ventilators, oxygen cylinders adds to Covid agony in Agra

Avoidable delay in Covid-19 testing and filing reports is causing a lot of trouble and resentment among kin of Covid patients in Agra as it hampers treatment on time.
 

While the number of samples collected so far has crossed 150,000, the reports are taking four to five days, even as hundreds of people daily queue up for testing at the SN Medical College and the district hospital.
 

It is not clear why the rapid antigen test reports are also being delayed, victims allege.

Telangana adds 1,417 new Covid-19 cases; 13 deaths take toll to 974

Telangana reported 1,417 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the overall infection tally to 1,58,513, while death toll rose to 974 with 13 more fatalities.
 

Out of the 1,417 fresh cases, 264 were reported from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), followed by Rangareddy (133), Karimnagar (108) and Sangareddy (107) districts, a state government bulletin said on Monday, providing data as of 8 pm on September 13.

Mizoram's Covid-19 tally rises to 1,428

Mizoram's Covid-19 caseload rose to 1,428 as 14 more people have tested positive for novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, an official said on Monday.
 
Of the 14 new cases, 11 were reported from Aizawl district, two from Saitual and one from Kolasib district, the official said.

Saudi Arabia to send animal samples to US in coronavirus probe

Saudi Arabia said today it would send samples taken from animals possibly infected with a deadly SARS-like virus to the United States for testing in a bid to find the source of disease.
 
The Saudi health ministry has "collected large samples from bats and other animals, including camels, sheep and cats," said Saudi Deputy Health Minister Ziad Memish.

Covid: New Zealand to ease Covid-19 curbs next week

New Zealand will relax its Covid-19 restrictions by moving to Alert Level 1 and decide on whether to lower Auckland's alert level on September 21, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said on Monday.
 
Currently, Auckland remains in Alert Level 2.5, with the rest of country in Level 2, reports Xinhua news agency.
 
Auckland saw the second wave of community outbreak in August which has been under control.

Global coronavirus update: Cases top 28.8 million, says Johns Hopkins

The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 28.8 million, while the deaths have increased to over 922,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
 
As of Monday morning, the total number of cases stood at 28,891,676 and the fatalities rose to 922,441, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.
 
US accounted for the world's highest number of cases while India is currently in the second place in terms of cases at 4,754,356.
