Odisha reports 7,216 new Covid-19 cases, 33 fresh fatalities

Odisha's COVID-19 tally soared to 7,39,955 on Friday as 7,216 more people tested positive for the infection, while 33 fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 2,651, a health official said.
 
As many as 4,041 new cases were reported in quarantine centres, while 3,175 infections were detected during contact tracing.
 
The number of fresh infections dropped below 10,000 for the second consecutive day this month as testing of samples also dipped due to the havoc wreaked by cyclone Yaas in the coastal state.

Free Covid health insurance for Indian sellers on Amazon

Amazon.in is arranging Covid-19 health insurance cover free of cost for registered sellers on its marketplace through Acko General Insurance. Amazon.in will fully fund the premium cost for this group insurance policy that will be valid for one year after activation.
 
Sellers with an active listing on Amazon.in between January 1, 2020 and May 1, 2021 can enroll themselves under the group policy to get coverage for Covid-19 hospitalisation and medical expenses up to Rs 50,000. In addition, the insurance policy will cover domiciliary treatment expenses as prescribed up to the sum insured.
 
Vice President Manish Tiwary said: "While we sincerely hope that none of the marketplace sellers need to use this, the policy ensures that if they need it, their medical expenses are taken care of through the insurance.

Over 10 million Covid vaccine doses available with states: Health Ministry

More than 1.84 crore coronavirus vaccine doses are currently available with states and union territories, and three lakh more will be received by them in the next three days, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.
 
The central government has so far provided, through the free of cost channel and direct state procurement, more than 22.46 crore doses to states and UTs.
 
Of these, the total consumption, including wastage, is 20,48,04,853 doses, according to data available till 8 AM on Friday. A total of 1,84,92,677 COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered, the ministry said, adding 3,20,380 more doses are in the pipeline and will be received by them within the next three days. Covid-19 relief: Kenya donates 12 tonnes of food products to India

Kenya has donated 12 tonnes of food products to India as part of its COVID-19 relief efforts, a statement said on Friday. The east African country has sent 12 tonnes of tea, coffee and groundnut produced locally to the Indian Red Cross Society, it said adding that the packets will be distributed across Maharashtra with food aid.
 
"The Government of Kenya wishes to stand in solidarity with the people and Government of India during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic by donating consumable food stuffs," Willy Bett, high commissioner of the African country to to India, said.
 
Bett, who came to the financial capital from New Delhi to hand over the food articles, said the donation is directed to the frontline care givers who continue to work long hours to save lives.

DRDO's 2DG anti-Covid drug priced at Rs 990 per sachet: Dr Reddy's

The Defence Research and Development Organisation’s 2DG drug for the treatment of Covid-19 has been priced at Rs 990 per sachet by Dr Reddy’s Lab.

The drug will be provided to government hospitals at a discounted price, ANI quoted government officials as saying. Earlier, defence minister Rajnath Singh had informed 10,000 sachets of the 2DG drug would be available in the market from Thursday (May 27, 2021).

The first batch of the drug will be available only in AIIMS, Armed Forces Hospitals, DRDO hospitals, and other places in need. It will be available in other hospitals in June. READ MORE...

Suspension of scheduled international passenger flights extended till June 30

The coronavirus-induced suspension of scheduled international passenger flights has been extended till June 30, aviation regulator DGCA said on Friday.
 
"However, international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case-to-case basis," the Directorate General of Civil Aviation added.
 
Scheduled international passenger services have been suspended in India since March 23, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. But special international flights have been operating under the Vande Bharat Mission since May 2020, and under bilateral "air bubble" arrangements with select countries since July 2020.

COVID-19 death toll crosses 150 in Maldives

Maldives on Thursday reported three COVID deaths over the past 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 151 in the country.
 
Citing Health Protection Agency (HPA), avas.mv reported three deaths over the past 24 hours increasing the country's toll to 151. The 74 deaths were recorded thus far this month compared to 51 deaths recorded between March and December 2020.
 
There are 1,299 confirmed cases of COVID-19. This increases the country's tally to 60,943, reported avs.mv.
