Covid-19 surge: Not wearing mask amounts to crime, says MP CM
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday said not wearing a face mask amounts to crime and appealed to people to follow appropriate "social behaviour" to check the spread of Covid-19.
The surge in cases now is due to people lowering their guard, Chouhan said after starting a 24-hour 'sit-in' here to spread the awareness among people about following the Covid-19 prevention guidelines.

Former India wicketkeeper and Mumbai Indians' talent scout Kiran More has tested positive for Covid-19, the IPL franchise said on Tuesday.
The 58-year-old More is also the wicket-keeping consultant of the five-time IPL champions.
"Mr. More is currently asymptomatic and has been isolated. Mumbai Indians and Kiran More have followed all the BCCI health guidelines," MI stated in a media release.
"The MI medical team will continue to monitor Mr. More's health and abide by the BCCI protocols."

Maharashtra: Traders wait for respite following fresh Covid-19 curbs
Merchants' and traders' associations in Aurangabad district are in "wait and watch" mode, following the announcement of fresh set of curbs issued by the Maharashtra government to control the Covid-19 spread.
As per the guidelines issued by the state government, shops that don't sell essential commodities will have to remain shut till April 30.
Hospitals, medicals stores, shops selling vegetables, groceries, dairies and bakeries have been permitted to operate.
Merchants and representatives from the cloth, automobile and vehicle dealerships met Minister of state for Revenue Abdul Sattar and collector Sunil Chavan on Monday night.

70 new cases push Assam's Covid-19 tally to 218,740
Assam's Covid-19 tally has mounted to 2,18,740 as the state reported this year's highest single-day spike of 70 fresh cases, a health bulletin said.
The daily fresh cases, which had dipped to below 30 in the last three months, is showing an upward trend since the last week of March.
Two fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 1,109, while 1,347 patients have died so far due to other reasons, it said.

WHO's Covax has shipped over 36 mn doses to 86 nations
Covax, a World Health Organization-led initiative aimed at ensuring equal access to Covid-19 vaccines, has so far shipped more than 36 million doses of the jabs to 86 countries, a UN spokesman said.
"Algeria received more than 36,000 doses over the weekend from Covax. These doses will help accelerate the vaccination campaign already underway in the country," Xinhua news agency quoted Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, as saying at a regular press briefing on Monday.
He cited Eric Overvest, UN Resident Coordinator in Algeria, as saying that "the new doses will help ensure that no one is left behind. Our teams on the ground have helped to train healthcare workers, sensitize people on vaccines, and supported the cold chain".

Night curfew in Delhi: AAP government releases detailed guidelines
In view of rising Covid-19 cases, the Delhi government of Tuesday imposed a night curfew in the national capital from 10 pm to 5 am.

237 coronavirus cases in Pondicherry, tally touches 42,776
Puducherry logged 237 fresh Covid-19 cases during last 24 hours ending 10 am on Tuesday, taking the aggregate to 42,776.
Two more persons (both are women) aged between 62 and 87 years succumbed to the illness.
With these deaths, the toll now rose to 688.
Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said the new cases were identified at the end of examination of 3018 samples.
While 145 of the total new cases were reported in Puducherry, Karaikal had 68 patients, Yanam nine and Mahe 15 during the last twenty-four hours.

Covid-19: Saudi Arabia issues new guidelines for Umrah pilgrims
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Monday announced new terms and conditions for visitors and Umrah pilgrims in the wake of surging coronavirus cases.
As per the new guidelines that will come into effect from the 1st of Ramadan, only those who have received coronavirus vaccines will be allowed to enter the holy mosques, Geo News reported citing the country's media.
The new guidelines state that only those pilgrims who have been duly inoculated with the coronavirus vaccine will be allowed to visit the Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (The Prophet's Mosque) and Masjid al-Haram (The Great Mosque), said the Kingdom's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

Pune district reports 8,211 new Covid cases, six deaths
The district reported over 8,200 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, a dip in the number of new cases since the past three days. Pune has been reporting the highest number of new positive cases in the state breaking its own record since the lockdown has been imposed. Pune’s progressive count went up to 5.84 lakh new cases of which 4.95 lakh have recovered, 8,489 have been declared dead and the active cases count has gone beyond 81,000.
