Nagpur reports 7,201 new Covid-19 cases, 63 deaths in the last 24 hours

Nagpur district in Maharashtra on Sunday reported 7,201 new coronavirus cases, its highest single-day spike so far, which pushed the infection count to 2,78,556, authorities said.
 
The virus claimed the lives of 63 patients during the day, which took the death toll to 5,769, the district information office said in a release.
 
Of the total number of deaths reported so far, 3,604 have died in Nagpur city alone, it said.

Coronavirus LIVE: Delhi sees 10,774 cases in a day, a record high

Delhi recorded 10,774 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the highest single-day surge in the national capital till date, according to data shared by the health department.
 
According a bulletin issued by the department on Sunday, 48 new fatalities were also recorded, pushing the death toll to 11,283.
 
The fresh cases came out of the record over 1.14 lakh tests conducted the previous day, the bulletin said, adding that the positivity rate stood at 9.43 per cent. The previous highest single-day spike in Delhi -- 8,593 cases -- was reported on November 11 last year, while on November 19, the city recorded 131 COVID-19 deaths, the highest single-day fatality count till date.

For the first time since the Covid-19 vaccination drive began, national capital Delhi vaccinated over one-lakh people in a day on Sunday, the first day of the nation-wide 'Tika Utsav'.
 
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) set up several temporary vaccine camps across the city to mark the beginning of Tika Utsav, according to the office of Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.
 
The LG's office said that all the required regulations, related enforcement measures and ramping up of the supporting medical infra were put in place consultation with the Chief Minister, under the aegis of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

Negative Covid-19 report mandatory for people travelling to HP from seven worst-hit states

The Himachal Pradesh government on Sunday made it mandatory for people coming from seven states which have witnessed a spike in coronavirus cases to show a COVID-19 negative test report on entering the state.
 
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said people coming from Punjab, Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh need to carry a negative RT-PCR report not earlier than 72 hours while visiting Himachal Pradesh from April 16.
 
He made the announcement while presiding over a meeting with senior officers to review the coronavirus situation in the state. Thakur said the decision has been taken to check the spread of COVID-19 in the state and an advisory in this regard will be issued soon.

65% Covid patients less than 45 years, not 35, Arvind Kejriwal clarifies

Hours after stating that around 65 per cent of new Covid-19 cases in Delhi are among people aged below 35 years, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday clarified that it should be 45 years and he had mistakenly said 35.
 
"Imp correction - By mistake, I said in my PC that 65 per cent patients are less than 35 yrs. Thats wrong. Actually, 65 per cent patients are less than 45 yrs," Kejriwal said in a tweet. In his press conference, Kejriwal said on Sunday that the national capital is facing an alarming situation.
 
"Fourth wave of Covid-19 in Delhi has made the situation worse than what it was during the third peak. Over 10,000 Covid-19 cases were reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours, this is a worrisome situation," he said.
