Coronavirus live updates: India's count of active cases has once again topped the 150,000 mark. On Wednesday, the country registered 16,738 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking its the caseload tally to 11,046,914. India continues to be second-most-affected globally, and ranks 14th among worst-hit nations by active cases. The cumulative number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered to healthcare and frontline workers in the country has crossed 12.7 million, the Union health ministry said.

Meanwhile, in the light of rising Covid cases in Maharashtra, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has directed private hospitals in the city to reserve around 2,000 to 3,000 beds for infected patients.

The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (2,121,119), Kerala (1,045,009), Karnataka (949,183), Andhra Pradesh (889,503), and Tamil Nadu (849,629).

World coronavirus update: Coronavirus cases rise unabated across the globe with 113,073,391 infected by the deadly contagion. While 88,694,235 have recovered, 2,506,588 have died so far. The US remains the worst-hit country with 28,970,490, followed by India, Brazil, Russia and the United Kingdom. However, it terms of the total number of active cases, US tops the charts, followed by France, UK, Brazil and Belgium.

Nagpur adds 1,116 new Covid-19 cases to tally; 13 more deaths

At least 1,116 fresh cases of coronavirus and 13 more casualties due to the infection were reported in Maharashtra's Nagpur district on Thursday, an official said, accoriding to PTI. With this, the tally of infection in the district rose to 1,46,831, while the toll reached 4,314, the official said. As many as 1,028 patients were discharged from various treatment facilitates, taking the count of recoveries to 1,35,258, he said. This leaves the district with 7,259 active cases, he said. With the addition of 10,611 samples tested during the day, the total number of tests conducted in the district rose to 12,08,400, as per PTI.

Jammu and Kashmir sees 108 new Covid-19 cases, no deaths

Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday recorded 108 new Covid cases and 59 discharges after recovery from different hospitals while no death was reported from anywhere during the last 24 hours. An official bulletin said of the new cases, 31 were from the Jammu division and 77 from the Kashmir division.
 
So far, 126,201 people have been infected with coronavirus in J&K out of which 123,426 have recovered while 1,955 have succumbed. The number of active cases is 820 out of which 193 are from the Jammu division and 627 from the Kashmir division.

601 new cases in Nashik district of Maharashtra; tally 121,478

The COVID-19 tally in Nashik district of Maharashtra reached 121,478 with the addition of 601 cases on Thursday, health officials said.
 
The virus claimed three lives during the day, which took the death toll in the district to 2,095, they said. So far, 1,16,914 patients have recovered and got discharge from hospitals in the district, of whom 291 recuperated on Thursday alone. As many as 5,36,458 swabs have been tested till now, of which 2,711 were tested on Thursday.

Free vaccines for the 60-plus, comorbid cases in govt hospitals from Mar 1

India will start the next stage of vaccinating those above 60 years of age and those above 45 with comorbidities, such as diabetes and heart ailments, from March 1, the government announced in a Cabinet briefing on Wednesday.
 
The vaccines will be given for free in over 10,000 government hospitals and will come for a price, which is yet to be decided, in more than 20,000 private centres. Goa records 71 new Covid-19 cases; two more casualties

As many as 71 persons tested positive for coronavirus, while two died of the infection in Goa on Thursday, an official from the health department said. With the addition of latest cases, the state's COVID- 19 tally has reached 54,771 and toll stood at 791, the official said.
 
As many as 33 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 53,449, he said. The coastal state is now left with 531 active cases, the official said. At least 1,632 samples were tested during the day, taking the total number of tests conducted in the state so far to 4,88,742, he added.

Seven states comprise 89.5% new Covid-19 cases: Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed on Thursday that the situation of Covid-19 in seven states is deteriorating since cases there have contributed 89.5 per cent to the tally.
 
The ministry said that Maharashtra and Kerala continue to report the highest daily new cases while the situation in Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh has been deteriorating for a few days. Sri Lanka receives 500,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines from India

Sri Lanka on Thursday received 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines ordered from India.
 
Sri Lanka's acting health minister Channa Jayasumana said 500,000 doses of the Covishield vaccine arrived on Thursday. He said the new batch was ordered under an agreement between the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) of Sri Lanka and the Serum Institute of India.
 
The distribution of vaccines will start on Friday.

Bulgaria's Covid-19 death toll tops 10,000

Bulgaria's Covid-19 death toll mounted to 10,026 after 48 new fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours, health ministry said on Thursday.
 
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed infections rose by 1,733 to 242,124, the ministry said.
 
Data showed that as many as 505 people have recovered from the disease during the same period, pushing the total recoveries to 202,005. The ministry also said that 20,236 doses of coronavirus vaccines were administered in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours, taking the total number to 168,462.

Delhi sees 220 new Covid-19 cases and 188 recoveries in last 24 hours

Delhi reported 220 fresh COVID-19 cases, 188 recoveries and two deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Delhi Health Department's data on Thursday. With the addition of new infections, the cumulative COVID-19 cases in the national capital reached 6,38,593, including 6,26,519 recoveries, and 10,905 deaths.
 
At present, the total number of active cases in the state stands at 1,169. The cumulative positivity rate in the national capital is 5.24 per cent. At present, Delhi has 550 containment zones.
