251 fresh coronavirus cases take Uttar Pradesh's tally to 5,99,624

The COVID-19 death toll in Uttar Pradesh rose to 8,642 on Thursday with six more fatalities, while 251 new cases pushed the infection tally to 5,99,624, an official here said.
 
"The state recorded 251 fresh cases in the past 24 hours while 380 patients were discharged in this period. There are 6,230 active cases while the total number of those discharged stands at 5,84,752," Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad told reporters.

A new study has discovered that one in every three adults, especially younger adults, women, and those of lower socioeconomic status experience psychological distress related to COVID-19.
 
Researchers at Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore reported in the journal 'PLOS ONE' that COVID-19 continues to pose serious threats to public health across the globe, and interventions such as lockdowns, quarantine, and social distancing are having an adverse impact on the mental well-being of populations.
 
The pandemic has escalated the burden of psychological distress, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and insomnia. However, the factors associated with increased susceptibility to psychological distress among adults in the general population during COVID-19 are not yet well known.

India has flattened its COVID-19 graph and146 districts have reported no new case of the viral disease in the last seven days, 18 in 14 days, six in 21 days and 21 districts in the last 28 days, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Thursday.
 
This has been achieved due to pro-active testing with more than 19.5 crore COVID-19 tests conducted in the country so far, Vardhan, who chaired the 23rd meeting of the high-level Group of Ministers (GoM) on COVID-19 through a video-conference, said, according to a statement issued by the health ministry.

Pakistan to start Covid-19 vaccination drive next week

Pakistan will launch its COVID-19 vaccination drive next week, starting with frontline healthcare workers, PTI reported. Minister for Planning Asad Umar who is heading National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) on Wednesday tweeted that the system for vaccination is in place. Hundreds of vaccination centres in the country will be administering COVID vaccine.
 
God willing, the vaccination of frontline health workers will start next week, he said.
 
China has promised to provide 500,000 doses of the coronavirus vaccine free of cost before the end of January. Earlier, Pakistan approved three vaccines, including Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, Chinese China National Pharmaceutical Group (SinoPharm) and Russian-developed Sputnik V.

Coronavirus LIVE: 165 infected in India with UK Covid-19 variant, says govt

The number of people who have tested positive for the UK variant of SARS-CoV-2 in the country has climbed to 165, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday. All these persons have been kept in single room isolation in designated Health Care facilities by respective state governments, said PTI report.
 
Their close contacts have also been put under quarantine. Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travellers, family contacts and others.
 
"The total number of cases infected with the new strain of the novel coronavirus first reported in the UK now stands at 165," the ministry said.

Bahrain receives 10,800 Covishield doses from India

As Bahrain on Thursday received a consignment of 10,800 'Made in India' coronavirus vaccines, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the delivery of the vaccines is a testimony of long-standing fraternal ties between the two countries.
 
"Bahrain receives Made-in-India vaccines. A testimony to our long-standing fraternal ties," tweeted Jaishankar.
 
Bahrain has received the consignment of the Covishield vaccine developed by the Serum Institute of India as a gift from India under the Vaccine Maitri initiative. Earlier in the day, a consignment containing over 50,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine reached Colombo, Sri Lanka.
 
Countries who have received a supply of COVID-19 vaccines from India under Neighbourhood First policy, include Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
