India Coronavirus Dispatch: Daily death toll spikes after Bihar recount
The record jump in daily deaths was because Bihar revised its data to add backlog fatalities. The active caseload is at about 1.2 million, while the total recoveries have surged to 27.7 million. Odisha logs 6,097 new Covid cases, 44 more fatalities
Odisha's COVID-19 caseload mounted to 8,37,226 on Thursday as 6,097 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said.
Forty-four fresh fatalities pushed the coronavirus death toll in the state to 3,167, he said.
Of the new cases, 3,446 were reported from quarantine centres and 2,651 were detected during contact tracing. Khurda district, which comprises the state capital Bhubaneswar, reported the highest number of fresh cases at 1,017, followed by Cuttack (647) and Jajpur (434). The remaining cases were registered in several other districts.

Covid: Areas with more SC population are at least 20% less vaccinated
The government may be expanding its vaccination policy, but it needs to make the process more equitable.
Although the government is now vaccinating nearly 30 lakh people daily, there is a wide gap in vaccination in districts with more scheduled caste population and areas where the scheduled caste population is less than average.
A BS analysis shows that while Indian districts average 15.16 doses per 100 people, districts, where the scheduled caste population is higher than average, have administered 13.9 doses per 100 people. In contrast, districts with a less-than-average SC population have administered 20 per cent more doses (16.7 doses per 100 people). READ HERE...

The guidelines issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the health ministry doesn’t recommend the use of Remdesivir (an emergency use authorization drug) among children.
"There is a lack of sufficient safety and efficacy data with respect to Remdesivir in children below 18 years of age," the guidelines said.

Committed to prevent any misuse of sensitive data regarding COVID vaccines, says Centre
After reports in a section of the media highlighting the letter of the Union Health Ministry to States and Union Territories regarding the eVIN inventory and temperature data of COVID-19 vaccine, the health ministry on Thursday clarified that the letter was intended to prevent the use of such sensitive data for unauthorised commercial purposes.
The ministry further said that the government's advice to States and UTs to obtain the permission of the Union Ministry of Health before sharing the E-VIN data and analytics related to vaccines stocks and the temperature at which they are stored is solely to prevent any misuse of this data by various agencies for commercial purpose.
"The crucial information related to specific vaccine usage trends for multiple vaccines used in Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP), and temperature-related data in respect to each such vaccine, can be used to manipulate the market as well as associated research with respect to various vaccines and cold chain equipments," it said.

Arunachal Pradesh logs 247 new COVID-19 cases, two more deaths
At least 247 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the tally to 30,247, a senior health official said on Thursday. The frontier state's toll rose to 128 with two more persons succumbing to the infection, the official said.
A 37-year-old woman from Lohit district and a 41- year-old man from Lower Subansiri died of the disease on Wednesday, State Surveillance officer Dr Lobsang Jampa said.
Changlang recorded the maximum number of fresh cases at 48, followed by the Capital Complex Region at 44, East Kameng at 20, Lower Dibang Valley at 18, East Siang and Kra Daadi at 13 each and Lower Subansiri and Namsai at 12 each.

World coronavirus update: Chinese mainland reports six new locally transmitted Covid-19 cases
The Chinese mainland on Wednesday reported six new locally transmitted Covid-19 cases, all in Guangdong Province, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Thursday.
The same day also saw 15 new imported cases on the mainland. Of them, seven were reported in Shanghai, three in Guangdong, two in Shaanxi, and one each in Zhejiang, Sichuan and Yunnan, Xinhua news agency reported.
