Covid LIVE: Total lockdown from Saturday 5 pm till Monday 6 am in Jharkhand

The Jharkhand government on Wednesday extended COVID-related lockdown-like restrictions till June 16 with some relaxations, an official said. This is the fifth time that the curbs, first imposed in the state on April 22 for a week, were extended. The ongoing measures were scheduled to end on June 10.
 
The decision was made at a meeting of the state disaster management authority chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
 
"The Health Safety Week now stands extended till June 16. Some relaxations have been given, including the opening of shops in 23 districts from 6 am to 4 pm," the official said.

13 Delhi residents booked for flouting Covid-19 protocol at party in Noida

Police have booked 13 people from Delhi, including three women, for violating Covid norms by gathering at a party, officials said on Wednesday.
 
Acting on a tip-off, the local expressway police raided the party being held at a farmhouse in Sector 135 on Tuesday evening, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Ranvijay Singh said.
 
There was no liquor or objectionable substance found at the spot but only snacks, food and drinks, Singh said. However, these people were booked for partying in violation of the COVID-19 protocols and guidelines besides violation of CrPC restrictions imposed, he said.

Russia records over 10,000 new Covid-19 cases

Russia has reported another 10,407 COVID-19 cases in the past 24-hour period, the highest number of daily infections since March 7, 2021, according to the official data released Wednesday.
 
The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 5,156,250.
 
The national COVID-19 death toll rose by 399 to 124,895 in the past day, while the number of the country's recoveries grew by 9,814 to 4,761,899. Meanwhile, Moscow, Russia's worst-hit region, reported 4,124 new cases, taking its total to 1,209,214. More than 141.1 million COVID-19 tests have been conducted across the country.

Covid-19 vaccination almost out of reach for poor people, refugees in Pakistan

In Pakistan, where nearly a quarter of the population lives below the poverty line, getting vaccinated against COVID-19 has become very difficult for them as well as for the refugees who are residing in the country.
 
The COVID-19 vaccination campaign is exposing inequality. France 24 in a report covered this inequality with their correspondents Shahzaib Wahlah and Sonia Ghezali.
 
"A large part of the population of Lahore neighbourhood is illiterate. No one has proper access to information about COVID-19 vaccination campaign that started in country last April," said Shahzaib Wahlah.

Tripura logs 700 new Covid-19 cases, five more deaths

Tripura's COVID-19 tally rose to 56,169 as 700 more people tested positive for the virus, while five new fatalities pushed the coronavirus death toll to 574, a health official said on Wednesday.
 
The state currently has 5,152 active COVID-19 cases, the official said.
 
At least 563 more people recuperated since Tuesday, taking the total number of COVID-19 recoveries to 50,380. The COVID-19 recovery rate now is 89.79 per cent. Altogether, 10,72,002 samples have been tested so far for COVID-19.

Arunachal villagers lap up offer of free rice in return for Covid jabs

Free rice in return for a COVID-19 jab, and as much as 20 kg. The prospect turned out to be lucrative enough to dispel rumours around vaccination among villagers of an administrative circle in Arunachal Pradesh, as over 80 of them turned up on foot for the inoculation within days of the announcement of the sop.
 
The brainchild of Circle Officer Tashi Wangchuk Thongdok of Yazali in Lower Subansiri district, the offer of free rice for those getting vaccinated in the 45-plus age group was launched on Monday and is valid till Wednesday.
 
"We are constantly trying to work out strategies to improve vaccination coverage in the circle and in the district.

DRDO invites Express of Interest for bulk production of Covid drug 2-DG

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which developed 2 -Deoxy-D-Glucose (2-DG), a drug used for the treatment of COVID-19 patients, has called for Express of Interest (EOI) to transfer the technology to Indian pharmaceutical industries for production.
 
The 2-DG is developed by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), a lab of DRDO, in collaboration with Dr Reddy' Laboratories.
 
The third phase trials of 2-DG began in January, while the phase trials were conducted over three month period between June and September last year and involved 110 patients.

Delhi CM Kejriwal says people happy with getting jabs at polling booths

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited a vaccination centre on Wednesday, a day after his government launched 'Jahan vote, vahan vaccine' campaign in the national capital.
 
The campaign is aimed at spreading awareness and encouraging citizens aged above 45 to get vaccinated against COVID-19 at local polling booths in their assembly constituencies.
 
"Visited a centre under the 'Jahan vote, vahan vaccine' today. People there seemed to be happy about the fact that they could get vaccinated near their homes at the polling booths where they go to cast their votes," Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi. READ ON...

Jharkhand reports 603 new coronavirus infections, 13 more deaths

Jharkhand reported 603 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday and 13 more deaths, as per a health bulletin said. There are 5,099 active cases in the state at present.
 
Jharkhand has so far recorded 5,073 deaths and 3,42,179 COVID cases.
 
Nineteen of the total 24 districts in the state did not record any death during the last 24 hours, showing signs of recovery. State capital Ranchi and East Singhbhum, which were witnessing high casualties, recorded five deaths each. READ MORE...
