Coronavirus Latest: Around 400 new Covid cases in Delhi, says Kejriwal
Delhi on Saturday recorded about 400 fresh Covid-19 cases while the positivity rate dropped further to 0.5 per cent, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said.
Announcing relaxations in lockdown like the opening of markets on an odd-even basis and resumption of Delhi Metro operations at 50 per cent capacity, the chief minister said if the number of cases remains in control for another week, the restrictions will be eased further.
On Friday, Delhi had recorded 523 new Covid-19 cases and 50 deaths while the positivity rate stood at 0.68 per cent, according to health department data. (PTI)

States, UTs have over 10 million vaccine doses, says Centre
More than 1.65 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with states and union territories, the Union health ministry said on Saturday.
So far, over 24 crore doses have been provided to the states and UTs, it said in a statement.
The total consumption, including wastage, stands at 22,65,08,508 doses, according to data available at 8 am on Saturday, the ministry said. (PTI)

Coronavirus Latest: Japan's birth rate fell to record low in 2020 amid Covid
The number of babies born in Japan fell to a record low last year, as more couples put off marriage and starting a family amid a global pandemic, said reports.
Japan has been struggling with a looming demographic crisis for years, with its birth rate continually declining -- raising concerns of the aging population and shrinking workforce.
According to the Health Ministry of Japan, the number of births fell to 8,40,832 in 2020, down 2.8 per cent from a year earlier and the lowest since records began in 1899. (PTI)

UK, Brazil travellers to Lebanon must quarantine for 5 days
Lebanon's Civil Aviation Authority announced that inbound travellers from the UK and Brazil will have to undergo a five-day mandatory quarantine at designated hotels.
Passengers without a booking in the listed hotels will not allowed to board a flight bound for Lebanon, and the airlines will pay for those passengers' accommodation if they are allowed aboard, Xinhua news agency reported citing the Authority as saying on Friday.
The Lebanese and foreign diplomats, along with their family, are exempted from hotel quarantine but must stay at home for five days.
Exemption for hotel quarantine also applies to passengers who have been fully vaccinated two weeks before departing for Lebanon. (IANS)

Delhi markets to open on odd-even basis, metro to run at 50% capacity
The Delhi Metro will operate at 50 per cent capacity and markets and malls in the national capital will open on an odd-even basis from June 7, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday as he announced further relaxations in lockdown.
He also said the Delhi government will set up two genome sequencing labs at the LNJP Hospital and the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences to determine the coronavirus variant that led to a surge in cases in the city.
The lockdown in Delhi, which was to end at 5 AM on Monday, will be extended further but several relaxations will be allowed, Kejriwal said during an online briefing.

UK reports highest single-day Covid-19 case surge in over 2 months
The UK has reported the highest single-day coronavirus case surge in more than two months, according to official figures.
The new 6,238 coronavirus cases on Friday increased the country's overall infection tally to 4,521,919, the seventh highest in the world, Xinhua news agency reported.
The death toll spiked to 128,086 after 11 more people succumbed to the disease.
