Arunachal logs record for recoveries in a single day

Arunachal Pradesh recorded 16 new cases of Covid-19 and no deaths in 24 hours, said the health ministry on Sunday. As many as 120 more people recuperated from the disease: a record for a single day, PTI reported. The state’s total cases increased to 54,881 and fatalities are at 280.

Only half of schools worldwide have resumed classroom teaching: Survey

Schools closed 19 months ago for the coronavirus and only half have resumed classroom teaching, said a worldwide survey. Around 34 per cent schools rely on mixed or hybrid instruction mode, said the survey by Johns Hopkins University, the World Bank, and UNICEF. As many as 53 per cent countries had prioritised vaccinating teachers.

Over 959.6 mn Covid-19 vaccine doses sent to states, UTs so far: Govt

More than 959.6 million Covid vaccine doses have been provided to states and Union Territories so far, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday. A total of 82,873,425 balance and unutilised vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs for inoculation, it said.

The Union government is committed to accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of Covid-19 vaccination throughout the country, the ministry said in a statement.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands recorded three new cases of Covid-19 and no death from the disease in 24 hours, PTI reported quoting an unnamed health department official. The archipelago’s cases increased to 7,632 and fatalities in the pandemic stand at 129.

India's active cases--patients under treatment for Covid-19--comprise 0.68 per cent of total infections and they are at the lowest since March 2020. The national recovery is at 97.99 per cent: the highest since March 2020, said the health ministry.

West Bengal urges caution during Durga Puja festival

The West Bengal government on Saturday asked people to avoid crowded places, issuing an advisory for the 10-day Durga Puja festival that began October 6. “The Covid-19 pandemic is very much active. During this Durga Puja festival, we must avoid crowded places. It will be wise to stay indoors and celebrate the festival virtually,” said the health department, according to PTI.

Of the new infections, none was locally transmitted, the health authority said, unchanged from a day earlier. No new deaths were reported.
