Five hockey players who tested positive for Covid-19 are doing well: SAI
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Saturday confirmed that all five hockey players who tested positive for coronavirus are doing well and are being attended by their in-house doctor as well as one doctor from the state government.
The doctor from the state government has been deputed on the request of SAI. On Friday, men's hockey team skipper Manpreet Singh, Surender Kumar, Jaskaran Singh, Varun Kumar, and Krishan B Pathak had tested positive for the coronavirus.
"The five hockey players housed in NCOE Bengaluru, who tested COVID positive on August 7, are doing well. They are being attended to by SAI's in-house doctor as well as one doctor from the state government, who has been deputed on SAI's request," SAI said in an official statement.

Uttarakhand: Rs 200-Rs 500 fine for not wearing mask in public places
The Uttarakhand government on Saturday announced that it will impose a fine of Rs 200-Rs 500 on people who do not wear face masks in public places.
Issuing the order while reviewing the Covid-19 situation in the state, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said first time offenders should be fined Rs 200 and second time offenders Rs 500.
The government will also provide four washable masks to violators of the Covid guidelines, he said.
Rawat asked officials to sternly deal with people coming from high risk areas and hiding their travel histories or misinforming authorities.
Nepal: Prachanda's security guards test positive for Covid-19
Six of the security personnel stationed at the residence of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' have tested positive for coronavirus, according to a media report.
The PCR tests of the guards were carried out at Maharajgunj-based Nepal Police Hospital, The Himalayan Times reported.
According to Dahal's secretariat, the infected persons are the team of police personnel stationed at the entrance of the residence.
Covid-19 doubling rate in Thane city improves to 69 days
The doubling rate of Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra's Thane city has improved from 24 days in June to 69 days presently, Thane municipal commissioner Dr Vipin Sharma said on Saturday.
As many as 21,514 cases of Covid-19 have been detected in Thane city so far.
While the recovery rate in the city stood at 81.10 per cent, the mortality rate was 3.20 per cent, the civic chief said.
India records 61,537 new Covid-19 cases, 933 deaths
With India registering 61,537 more cases, the coronavirus tally reached 20,88,611 on Saturday, while 14,27,005 people have so far recuperated from Covid-19 pushing the recovery rate to 68.32 per cent, the Union health ministry said.
The death toll due to the disease rose to 42,518 with 933 fresh fatalities being reported in a day, data updated at 8 am showed.
There are 6,19,088 active cases of Covid-19, comprising 29.64 per cent of the caseload. The case fatality rate has further dropped to 2.04 per cent.
UP CM inaugurates 400-bed Covid-19 hospital in Noida
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday inaugurated a 400-bedded Covid-19 hospital in Sector 39 of Noida in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district.
During the event, Yogi Adityanath said, "Today, A Covid-19 dedicated hospital has been launched at Gautam Budh Nagar. The Covid-19 fight continues, and in this, first comes Gautam Buddh Nagar and NCR region which were the biggest challenge, because of Delhi, the infection spread here as well."
Rise in Covid cases after return of state's residents: HP CM
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said there is a noticeable increase in Covid-19 cases in the state following the return of residents who were stranded in other parts of the country, especially in containment zones with many cases.
Addressing a press conference in Dharamshala on Saturday, the chief minister reiterated that no previous government had any experience to tackle a pandemic-like situation of such proportions as Covid-19 but asserted that the government was handling it well.
The state has reported a total of 3,151 coronavirus cases till Friday with 13 deaths so far.
Covid-19 tests of all cyclists, support staff before start of camp on Aug 14 return negative: SAI
The COVID-19 tests of all cyclists and support staff, who have been in quarantine on arrival ahead of the national camp beginning on August 14 here, have returned negative, the Sports Authority of India said on Saturday.
The team of 11 cyclists, four coaches and 16 support staff have already reported for the camp at the Indira Gandhi National Stadium and are undergoing mandatory quarantine.
Himachal Pradesh's Covid-19 tally rises to 3,207 with 56 new cases
Himachal Pradesh's total Covid-19 caseload rose to 3,207 on Saturday with 56 new instances of the viral infection reported in 24 hours, officials said.
Of the fresh cases, 43 were reported from Chamba, eight from Hamirpur, four from Kullu and one from Shimla, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) R D Dhiman said.
During the same period, 54 patients recovered from the disease. These include 42 in Solan, nine in Shimla and three in Hamirpur, he said.
IMA says nearly 200 doctors in India have succumbed to Covid-19 so far; requests PM's attention
A total of 196 doctors in the country, majority of them being general practitioners, have succumbed to Covid-19 so far, said the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Saturday, requesting the prime minister for his attention on the issue.
"As per the latest data collected by the IMA, our nation has lost 196 doctors, out of which 170 of them are above the age of 50 years, with general practitioners attributing to around 40 per cent of it," the IMA said expressing concerns over the safety of doctors losing their lives in the fight against the COVID-19 crisis.
While an increasing number of doctors are getting infected and losing their lives every day, substantial number of them have been found to be general practitioners.
Abhishek Bachchan tests negative Covid-19
Actor Abhishek Bachchan on Saturday said that he has tested negative for Covid-19.
Abhishek and his father, megastar Amitabh Bachchan were admitted to Nanavati hospital after they tested positive for Covid-19 on July 11.
Singapore's Covid-19 cases near 55,000-mark with 132 new patients
Singapore has reported 132 new Covid-19 cases, including six imported ones in the last 24 hours, taking the country's caseload to 54,929, the health ministry said on Saturday.
The vast majority of the new infections are work permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.
It said that there was no community transmission.
The ministry said that 132 new cases in the last 24 hours took the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 54,929.
Odisha reports 1,643 more Covid-19 cases, 12 deaths
As many as 1,643 new Covid-19 cases, 12 deaths and 1,810 recoveries have been reported from Odisha on Friday, said the state health department on Saturday.
Of the total 44,193 coronavirus cases, 15,189 cases are active, 28,697 are recovered cases. The death count due to the infection stands at 259, it added.
With a single-day spike of 61,537 new Covid-19 cases and 933 deaths in the last 24 hours, India's Covid-19 tally surged to 20,88,612 on Saturday.
Arunachal's Covid-19 tally crosses 2,000-mark with 101 fresh cases
Arunachal Pradesh's coronavirus tally crossed the 2,000-mark on Saturday as 101 more people, including 46 security personnel, tested positive for the disease, a Health Department official said.
With the fresh infections, the total number of cases rose to 2,049, State Surveillance Officer Dr L Jampa said.
Of the new cases, 11 were reported from the Capital Complex region, 34 from East Kameng district, 21 from East Siang, 12 from Changlang, six from Lohit, five each from Lower Siang and West Kameng, three from Tawang and one each from Namsai, Lower Dibang Valley, Longding and Papumpare, he said.
All, barring four, are asymptomatic and have been shifted to Covid Care Centres, Jampa said.
