17 new Covid-19 cases in Meghalaya, tally rises to 1,023
Seventeen more people including three BSF personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya, taking the state's tally to 1,023, an official said on Saturday.
The fresh cases have pushed the total number of active COVID-19 cases to 594, the official said.
Of the 17 persons who tested positive, 12 are in East Khasi Hills district, three BSF personnel in West Garo Hills district and two persons in North Garo Hills district, Director of Health Services, Aman War said.

Covid-19 tally in Russia increases by 5,212 to 882,347
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Russia has increased by 5,212 to 882,347 in the last 24 hours, the response center said on Saturday. The death toll has now increased to 14,854.
"In the last 24 hours, there have been 5,212[newly] confirmed cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus infection in 85 regions, including 1,334 detected cases (25.6 per cent) without clinical implications," the center said in a statement, adding that the total number of cases has risen to 882,347.

2,256 new Covid-19 cases, 14 deaths reported in Telangana
As many as 2,256 more COVID-19 cases and 14 deaths were reported in Telangana on Friday, the state government informed on Saturday.
With these, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state has reached 77,513 including 22,568 active cases. While 54,330 recoveries have been reported in the state so far, the death toll stands at 615.
As many as 23,322 samples were tested in the state on Friday. The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state stands at 70.09 percent, while the fatality rate is at 0.79 per cent.

Pakistan's Covid-19 caseload reaches 283,487; death toll at 6,068
Pakistan's coronavirus cases have reached 283,487 with 842 new cases in the last 24 hours while the death toll has climbed to 6,068, the health ministry said on Saturday.
Fourteen patients died in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of fatalities to 6,068, the Ministry of National Health Services said.
As many as 259,604 people have recovered across the country.

Coronavirus nos drop in Telangana capital region, but spike in districts
Even as the Telangana capital region registered a dip in the number of coronavirus cases, the state's single-day tally revealed a further spike in districts.
On Saturday, the state reported 2,256 new cases, up 49 cases from 2,207 reported on Friday.
Although the Greater Hyderabad area continues to contribute to to Telangana's daily tally, Saturday's update shows a substantial dip in the capital region.

Kozhikode flight crash: Deceased passenger tests positive for Covid-19
One of the 18 passengers, who died when an Air India Express flightfrom Dubai crashed landed at the airport here, has tested positive for COVID-19.
Higher Education Minister K T Jaleel told the mediathat samples ofthe passenger, Sudheer Varyath (45), were sent for testing and it hasreturned positive for the disease.

Covid-19 may have longer incubation period of eight days, scientists say
The incubation period of COVID-19, which is the time after which those infected with the novel coronavirus start showing the first symptoms, could be as much as eight days -- longer than previous estimates of four to five days -- says a new study which involved the largest amount of patient samples to date in such an analysis.
The research, published in the journal Science Advances, identified pre-symptomatic individuals at their time of departure from the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the COVID-19 pandemic originated, and then followed these infected people until their symptoms developed.

Coronavirus update: India is one of the fastest countries in terms of doubling of case tally
India, along with Colombia, is currently the fastest in doubling the case count, at just 21 days. It is followed by South Africa and Brazil. Serum Institute to provide Covid vaccine to 92 countries at Rs 250 a dose
Serum Institute of India (SII) has inked a pact with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, to make 100 million doses of a potential vaccine. This is for low- and medium-income countries, and with a price cap of Rs 250 a dose.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, via its Strategic Investment Fund, will provide at-risk funding of $150 million to Gavi for supporting SII in the manufacture, the company noted. Read on...

Coronavirus world update: Poland reintroduces restrictions following Covid-19 spike
Poland has reintroduced restrictions in some parts of the country following a spike in the number of coronavirus cases.
The Health Ministry on Friday eported 809 new cases, a new daily high for the fifth time since last week, bringing the total to 50,324, reports Xinhua news agency.
In an effort to limit the spread of the disease, the Ministry said that it would reintroduce restrictions in a select number of hotspot counties.
Starting on Saturday, the new restrictions will be in place in 19 counties, all in the south or southeast of the country, divided between so-called 'yellow' and 'red' zones, depending on the severity of the spread.

Covid-19: Centre considering proposal on physical Parliament session
The government is considering the proposal for a physical Parliament Monsoon session despite the Covid-19 pandemic. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariates have given some suggestions to the government for the physical session following which the Centre will soon take the final decision regarding it.
Sources told ANI that the government is considering the proposal for the physical session of both houses of Parliament.
It is also being considered that the Parliament session should be held from the Central Hall in two sessions daily--The first session dedicated to Lok Sabha for four hours and the second session to for Rajya Sabha for four hours.
