Kerala's Covid-19 tally breaches 30,000 mark; death toll climbs to 99
Kerala's Covid-19 tally breached the 30,000 mark on Friday as 1,251 fresh cases were reported, including of 18 health workers, while five more deaths took the toll to 99.
Of the 30,396 positive cases, 1,061 were infected through contact, while the infection source of 73 people was not yet known, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters here.
While 77 people had come from abroad, 94 had arrived from other states, he said.

Hockey captain Manpreet, 3 other players test positive for Covid-19
The Indian men's hockey team captain Manpreet Singh and three other players have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of a national camp in Bengaluru, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) said on Friday.
Besides Manpreet, defender Surender Kumar, Jaskaran Singh and drag-flicker Varun Kumar have also tested positive for the deadly virus.

Coronavirus: Punjab govt orders night curfew in Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has ordered night curfew from 9 pm to 5 am in the worst affected cities of Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Patiala from Saturday to contain Covid-19 spread.

US health chief to visit Taiwan, a coronavirus success story
US Health Secretary Alex Azar has said he wants to learn about Taiwan's incredibly effective response to the cornavirus even though the island did things that the US has fumbled, such as having a unified strategy and citizens willing to war masks.
Azar leads a U.S. delegation departing this weekend for a three-day visit to Taiwan, where they will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and health system leaders, and Azar will give a speech to public health graduates. The trip is a geopolitical chess move in the Trump administration's contentious relationship with China, which considers Taiwan part of its national territory and has already registered its displeasure.

Shanghai reports 2 new imported coronavirus cases
Shanghai reported two new imported Covid-19 cases but no increase in domestically transmitted infections, the municipal health commission said on Saturday.
The two new patients are Chinese nationals who flew in from abroad, reports Xinhua news agency.
While one arrived in Shanghai from the US via France on August 3, the second person flew in from from the United Arab Emirates three days later.

Gujarat's coronavirus death toll tops 2,600; state tally crosses 68,000 mark
The death toll in Gujarat due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) had risen to 2,606, with 22 more patients succumbing to the dreaded virus, officials said. The state on Friday saw 1,074 positive cases being detected from 26,591 tests. This has taken the total number of infections to 68,885.
On Friday, 1,370 patients were discharged. So far, 51,692 have been discharged in the state. Officials said that in the first seven days of August, 7,452 positive cases have been registered in Gujarat. On Friday, the new hotspot for the Coronavirus in Gujarat - Surat - registered 231 cases while Ahmedabad saw 153 new cases. Read on...
