987 new Covid-19 positive cases and 24 deaths in Punjab today
Punjab reported 24 more COVID-19 fatalities on Sunday, pushing the toll to 586 as 987 fresh cases took the state's infection tally to 23,903.
Nine deaths were reported in Ludhiana, four in Amritsar, three in Bathinda, two each in Kapurthala and Jalandhar and one each in Barnala, Sangrur, Mohali and Gurdaspur, as per a medical bulletin.
Districts which reported new cases include Ludhiana (316), Patiala (204), Jalandhar (79), Amritsar (76), Moga (59), Bathinda (41), Fatehgarh Sahib (37) and Gurdaspur (29). A total of 15,319 people have been discharged after recovering from the infection, the bulletin said.

Gujarat reports 1,078 new Covid-19 cases, tally rises to 71,064; death toll goes up to 2,654
Gujarat reported 1,078 new coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, taking the total in the state to 71,064, the health department said. The number of patients, who succumbed to COVID-19, rose to 2,654 with 25 new fatalities on Sunday, it said.
The number of recovered patients grew to 54,138 as 1,311 of them were given discharge. With this, there are now 14,272 active cases in Gujarat, of which the condition of 73 patients is critical, the department said in a release. The state has achieved a recovery rate of 76.18 per cent.

792 fresh coronavirus cases in Haryana; state tally rises to 41,635
Nine more COVID-19 deaths were reported in Haryana on Sunday, taking the toll to 483 as 792 fresh cases of the infection pushed the total in the state to 41,635. Of the total number of cases, 10,129 were reported in Faridabad, making it the worst-hit district in the state.
According to the Health department's daily bulletin, five fatalities were from Yamunanagar, two from Kurukshetra and one death each took place in Sonipat and Faridabad. With this, COVID-19 deaths in Haryana have risen to 483.

507 new Covid-19 positive cases reported in Jammu and Kashmir today
An increase of 507 coronavirus cases took the COVID-19 tally in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday to 24,897, while 13 deaths due to the viral disease were recorded in the last 24 hours, officials said.
Of the new deaths, 12 occurred in the Kashmir Valley and aone in the Jammu region, they said.
With the fresh fatalities, the death toll in the Union Territory rose to 472, of which 437 were from the Valley and 35 from Jammu region. Among them, 64 had returned to the Union territory recently.

Coronavirus latest update: 3,934 more Covid-19 cases in Bihar
As many as 3,934 more COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours in Bihar, taking the total positive cases in the state to 79,720, the state health department said on Sunday.
According to the health department, most of the cases have been detected in Begusarai (44), Bhojpur (109), East Champaran (162), Gopalganj (115), Katihar (177), Muzaffarpur (128), Nalanda (103), Patna (781), Rohtas (131), Saran (160), Saharsa (108), Samastipur (146), Vaishali (132) and West Champaran (108).

Coronavirus LIVE update: 93 new Covid-19 cases in Nagaland; tally rises to 2,781
Nagaland on Sunday reported 93 new COVID-19 cases, including 42 armed forces personnel, taking the northeastern state's tally to 2,781, an official said.
Of the total 2,781 COVID-19 cases, 1,866 are active as 904 people have recovered from the virus, eight have died and three have migrated to other states, the official said.

Asia-Pacific may see $31.4-54.3 bn remittance losses due to coronavirus: Asian Development Bank
Asia Pacific, which accounts for a third of the global migrant workforce, is likely to face remittance losses of USD 31.4-54.3 billion due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) said in a report.
The governments need to come up with policy measures to reduce the economic and social fallout arising out of it, the ADB said.
Job losses stemming from COVID-19 are hurting households around the world, but for Asia and the Pacific's 91 million migrant workers a third of the global migrant workforce the impacts will be particularly severe, the ADB said in August 2020 brief on 'COVID-19 Impact on International Migration, Remittances, and Recipient Households in Developing Asia.

Tamil Nadu adds 5,996 new cases of Covid-19, total tally at 296,901
Tamil Nadu added 5,994 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Of the new cases, 989 were reported in Chennai. For the last few weeks Chennai has been reporting less than 1,000 cases.
The total number of people tested in the last 24 hours was 68,179, said the State Health Department. While the number of patients, who werecured and discharged, stood at 6020, 119 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
The total number of cases in the state now stands at 296,901. While 238,638 patients have been discharged, 49,27 have succumbed to the disease.

Telangana reports 1,982 new Covid-19 cases; state tally now 79,495
As many as 1,982 COVID-19 and 12 deaths were reported in Telangana on August 8, taking the total number of cases to 79,495 in the state. According to the state health department, the total number of cases includes 55,999 recoveries and 627 deaths so far.
India on Sunday achieved a grim milestone after recording the highest single-day spike of 64,399 coronavirus cases, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. As many as 861 deaths were reported in the country, taking the cumulative toll to 43,379.

BJP workers helped the needy during lockdown in Andaman & Nicobar: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised BJP workers of Andaman and Nicobar at a virtual Karyakarta Samvad (dialogue with workers) for successfully conducting the Seva Hi Sanghathan programme during the nationwide Covid-19-induced lockdown. PM Modi said Andaman Nicobar is a difficult terrain and during the nationwide lockdown, BJP workers helped the needy people.
"When everyone was busy protecting themselves, BJP workers dedicated themselves to the service of the poor and the needy," he said.
At the same time he also cautioned BJP workers, asking them to follow the mantra of keeping distance and wearing a mask to keep themselves safe. Modi's address was significant as it was delivered on the eve of the small island becoming digitally independent on August 10. The PM will dedicate the submarine optical and fibre cable, which will connect Chennai and Port Blair, on Monday.
