Goa to finish partial vaccination for all by July 30, says Goa CM

Stating that Goa plans to complete the first dose vaccination against Covid-19 in the state by July 30, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday hinted at opening tourism activities after July.
 
He said that around 60 per cent of the state's population has received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccination.
 
Speaking to ANI, Sawant said, "In phase 3 vaccination, for 18 plus, we set up camps at every gram panchayat, every municipality of Goa. At present 60 per cent of our population has already received their 1st dose. Our target is to vaccinate 100 per cent of the people with their 1st dose by July end." Read here

Maharashtra: Thane sees 363 new cases; 10 more casualties

With the addition of 363 new cases of Covid-19, the tally of infections in Maharashtra's Thane district has risen to 5,28,489, an official said on Tuesday.
 
Apart from the new cases reported on Monday, the district also recorded 10 casualties that took the toll to 10,527, the official said.
 
With this, the Covid-19 mortality rate in the region now stands at 1.99 per cent, he said.
 
Details of recoveries and active cases were not provided by the district administration. (PTI)

90% Haryana cops get first dose of vaccine

Taking the lead in Covid vaccination, Haryana Police on Tuesday said 90 per cent of the force got vaccinated for the first dose and 65 per cent for the second dose.
 
The vaccination drive for police personnel started on February 4.
 
Director General of Police (DGP) Manoj Yadava encouraged the police officers and jawans by volunteering to get vaccinated first among the force.
 
As a result 53,924 officers and jawans have got the first shot of vaccine and more than 38,988 were given both doses. (IANS)

Coronavirus Latest: Puducherry reports 284 new cases

The Union Territory of Puducherry reported an increase in new Covid-19 cases with 284 fresh infections being registered during the last 24 hours ending 10 am on Tuesday, taking the overall tally to 1,15,364.
 
The toll rose to 1,727 with a 36-year-old woman succumbing to the virus, Director of the Department of Health S Mohan Kumar said. She had diabetes as comorbidity.
 
The Director said that the new cases were identified at the end of examination of 8,842 samples. (PTI)

Over 21.4 million vaccine doses still available with states: Centre

More than 2.14 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs and over 33,80,590 vaccine doses are in the pipeline and will be received by them within the next three days, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
 
According to the ministry data published at 7 am, India administered 86.16 lakh vaccine doses in a single day, the highest ever single-day vaccination achieved in the world so far.
 
Cumulatively, 28.87 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide inoculation drive. (PTI)

Odisha on Tuesday registered 2,957 new Covid-19 cases, the lowest in the past two months, with the caseload in the state surging to 8,83,490, a health department official said.

Preventing third Covid wave is in our hands, vaccine key solution: VK Paul

NITI Aayog member Dr V. K. Paul on Tuesday said thwarting the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic is in the hands of the people as "it can be stopped if Covid appropriate behaviour is followed, and majority of the people get vaccinated".
 
Paul's remarks came a day after a record 85 lakh Covid vaccination doses were administered across the country till Monday midnight with the beginning of the implementation of the revised Covid-19 vaccination policy, in which the Centre is procuring 75 per cent of domestically available vaccines for free jabs to the 18-plus population.
 
He said the day one vaccination figures demonstrate India's ability to carry out vaccination on a large-scale for days and weeks together. Read on...

Mamata urges people to protect children amid Covid third wave threat

Underlining that the overall Covid-19 situation in Bengal has improved, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday urged people to take all forms of measures to protect children amid warning by experts that the third wave of the pandemic may pose greater risk to them.
 
Banerjee also said that the number of beds in the paediatric divisions of hospitals has been increased.
 
The state on Monday registered 1,879 fresh cases of Covid-19, which pushed the tally to 14,83,586, while 42 more deaths raised the toll to 17,390, the health department said in its bulletin. Read on...
