For third day in a row no new COVID-19 case in Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh did not report any fresh COVID-19 case for the last three days, a senior health department official said on Saturday. The total COVID-19 caseload in the northeastern state is 16,829, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Lobsang Jampa said. Arunachal Pradesh currently has eight active COVID-19 cases, while 16,765 people have recovered from the disease. The COVID-19 death toll in the state is 56.

161 new COVID-19 cases, 1 death in Telangana

Telangana registered 161 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the total positives to over 2.95 lakh while one more fatality pushed the toll to 1,608. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 28, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri, Rangareddy and Warangal Urban with 10 each, a government bulletin said on Saturday providing details as of 8 pm on February 5. The total number of cases stood at2,95,431 while recoveries were at2,91,846. As many as1977 patients are under treatment and 35,421 samples were tested on Friday.

Delhi govt declares 6 hospitals completely 'Non-Covid' as cases decline

In view of the decreasing cases of COVID-19, the Delhi Government has declared six of its hospitals completely "Non-COVID" hospitals. Along with this, it has also been decided to reduce the number of reserve COVID-19 beds in five government hospitals. The order has been issued by the Health Department of the Delhi Government, which will come into force with immediate effect, according to the Delhi Health Department. According to the order, the hospitals of which have been declared completely COVID-19 free are--Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Acharya Shree Bhikshu Hospital and SRC Hospital.

11,713 new cases take India's coronavirus tally to 1,08,14,304

India's COVID-19 infection tally climbed to 1,08,14,304 with 11,713 new cases in a day, while 1,05,10,796 people have recuperated so far pushing the national recovery rate to 97.19 per cent on Saturday, according to Union Health Ministry data. There are 1,48,590 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which accounts for 1.37 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated. The total coronavirus cases mounted to 1,08,14,304 and the death toll climbed to 1,54,918 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 95 lives in a span of 24 hours in the country, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers should share production capacity: WHO

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), has called on Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers to scale up production significantly and urged countries to share doses once they complete their inoculation programmes.

Reiterating the negative impact of inequitable access to Covid-19 vaccines worldwide at a press briefing here on Friday, Tedros said that although the number of vaccine doses administered globally has already exceeded the number of reported infections, more than three-quarters of those were administered in just 10 countries that account for almost 60 per cent of global gross domestic product (GDP).

Meanwhile, 2.5 billion people in almost 130 countries have yet to receive a single dose, Xinhua news agency quoted the WHO chief as saying.

Global Covid-19 cases top 105.3mn: Johns Hopkins

The total number of global coronavirus cases has topped 105.3 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.29 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

In its latest update on Saturday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 105,346,199 and 2,296,700, respectively.

The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 26,804,927 and 459,278, respectively, according to the CSSE.

US to deploy over 1,000 troops to boost inoculation efforts

The US government will deploy more than 1,000 troops across the country in an effort to boost the vaccination drive against the novel coronavirus.

Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin has approved a request for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the troops' deployment, Xinhua news agency quoted Andy Slavitt, senior adviser to the White House's Coronavirus Response Team, as saying at a news conference on Friday.

Part of the first contingent of more than 1,000 troops will arrive at vaccination centres in California over the next 10 days and begin operations around February 15, Slavitt said.

Coronavirus cases drop at US homes for elderly and infirm

Coronavirus cases have dropped at US nursing homes and other long-term care facilities over the past few weeks, offering a glimmer of hope that health officials attribute to the start of vaccinations, an easing of the post-holiday surge and better prevention, among other reasons.

More than 153,000 residents of the country's nursing homes and assisted living centers have died of COVID-19, accounting for 36 per cent of the US pandemic death toll, according to the COVID Tracking Project. Many of the roughly 2 million people who live at such facilities remain cut off from loved ones because of the risk of infection. The virus still kills thousands of them weekly.

France reports 22,139 COVID-19 new cases, overall deaths top 78,000

The number of new confirmed coronavirus infections in France slowed for the second day in a row but stood well above the 5,000-case threshold to unwind restrictions, while deaths caused by the epidemic rose to 78,603, the health authorities said on Friday. A total of 22,139 people tested positive for COVID-19 in France in the past 24 hours, down from 23,448 on Thursday and 26,362 on Wednesday. The accumulative total of France's confirmed coronavirus cases was nearly 3.3 million, ranking sixth globally after the United States, India, Brazil, Russia, and Britain.

Africa's confirmed Covid cases pass 3.62 million

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases on the African continent has reached 3,626,960, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

According to the continental disease control and prevention agency's Covid-19 dashboard, the death toll related to the pandemic in Africa stood at 93,647 as of Friday, Xinhua news agency reported.

A total of 3,128,534 people infected with Covid-19 have recovered across the continent so far, the African Union (AU) Commission's healthcare agency disclosed.

Chile says 454,155 people vaccinated against Covid

Chilean Health Minister Enrique Paris has said 454,155 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in the country so far, as part of the mass vaccination plan that kicked off on Wednesday. "We hope this level of participation at vaccination centres continues in the next few days, which will achieve the immunization of critical groups," Paris said in a statement on Friday, Xinhua news agency reported. Of the total number of people immunized, 91,843 are over 85 years old, since the Chilean vaccination plan began with this age group considered to be at risk.

US Congress passes budget resolution for Biden's COVID-19 relief plan

The US Congress on Friday (local time) passed a budget resolution, a key procedural step that paves the way for Democrats to pass President Joe Biden's USD 1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package, without the threat of opposition from Republicans. According to CNN, the Senate early on Friday morning passed the budget resolution 51-50 on a party-line vote after Vice President Kamala Harris showed up at the Capitol to break the tie. The House passed the resolution later in the day. The House had already passed the budget measure earlier this week, but because it was amended in the Senate it needed to go back to the House for a final vote.

UK records another 19,114 coronavirus cases, 1,014 deaths

Another 19,114 people in Britain have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 3,911,573, according to official figures released on Friday. The country also reported another 1,014 coronavirus-related deaths. The total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Britain now stands at 111,264. These figures only include the deaths of people who died within 28 days of their first positive test, Xinhua news agency reported. The latest figures were revealed as Downing Street confirmed that all British adults aged 50 and older are expected to be offered a first dose of the coronavirus vaccine by early May.

Vaccination for police, security force to begin in Telangana today: Health Minister

Telangana is set to start a vaccination drive for officials of police and security forces from Saturday, said state Health Minister Eatala Rajender on Friday. "We are successfully conducting the vaccine program in Telangana and will vaccinate the police and security forces from February 6," he said. The Minister informed the Telangana is working to make some hospitals 'Covid Free Hospitals' because with a significant reduction of coronavirus infection in the state, such infrastructure will not be necessary.
