Chile begins vaccinating 6- to 11-year-olds against Covid

Chile has started vaccinating children aged 6 to 11 against Covid-19 with the CoronaVac vaccine, developed by Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac.

 

"We are starting a highly anticipated process," said Undersecretary of Public Health Paula Daza at a school in the capital Santiago, where children were getting vaccines, Xinhua news agency reported.

Russia reports most Covid deaths in a day

Russia recorded 852 coronavirus-related fatalities over the past 24 hours, the highest daily rise since the start of the pandemic, raising the national death toll to 205,531, the official monitoring and response centre said on Tuesday.

 

Meanwhile, 21,559 new Covid-19 cases were registered, taking the nationwide tally to 7,464,708, while the number of recoveries increased by 17,368 to 6,635,485, Xinhua news agency reported.

Haryana updates Covid-19 death toll, adds 64

Haryana reported on Tuesday no death due to Covid-19 in 24 hours as a committee added 64 fatalities to the health department's daily bulletin after investigating infections recorded earlier. The bulletin for Tuesday showed the total Covid death toll in the state at 9,874, compared to 9,810 on Monday. The state reported on Tuesday 22 new cases of Covid-19, increasing its total to 7,70,847.

China reports 25 new coronavirus cases

China reported on Wednesday 25 new confirmed coronavirus cases in the mainland for September 28, compared with 31 a day earlier, according to the National Health Commission. Of the new infections, 11 were locally transmitted, the health authority said, according to Reuters.

Bharat Bio says it's working with WHO for Covaxin approval

Hyderabad-based pharma major Bharat Biotech said on Tuesday it is working with the World Health Organization (WHO) to get Emergency Use Listing (EUL) for its Covid vaccine, Covaxin. The approval was expected by October 5, but has been delayed as more technical data has been sought from the pharma major.

United Airlines says 593 in US face firing over vaccines

United Airlines Holdings Inc. said as many as 593 employees face termination after declining to get the coronavirus vaccine by the carrier’s deadline this week. About 2,000 United workers have requested an exemption on medical or religious grounds, Bloomberg reported the company as saying on Tuesday.
