Lockdown may return if Covid norms violated: Patnaik
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Tuesday cautioned people that the government may be forced to reimpose lockdown if Covid-19 guidelines are not followed.

Assam reported 471 new cases of Covid on Tuesday to take its total to 5,93,087, PTI reported quoting a government bulletin. It recorded nine deaths to take total fatalities to 5719.

Mumbai mayor walks back on third wave comment
Mayor Kishori Pednekar said on Tuesday Mumbai was at the "threshold" of a third wave of coronavirus infections, walking back on a statement she had made before. "Third wave is not coming, it is already here," she said reporters at a function. PTI reported that her office later gave a statement that she meant to say a third wave was at the "threshold of Mumbai".

Japan to extend city restrictions
Japan's government is making arrangements to extend the state of emergencies in areas including Tokyo to the end of September, the Asahi newspaper reported, citing several unidentified officials. The emergencies are scheduled to expire Sept. 12, Bloomberg reported.
