In the immediate aftermath of Saturday’s gunbattle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pampore, which claimed the lives of eight Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men and two terrorists, the CRPF and the Indian Army got into a disagreement over who had actually killed the terrorists involved, The Indian Express reported on Tuesday.

Sources in the paramilitary force have alleged that the army tried to claim credit for killing the terrorists, the report said, adding that the sources also alleged that army personnel carried away the weapons and ammunition found in possession of the dead terrorists, only to return them in a matter of hours.

According to NDTV, the CRPF said that army personnel arrived at the site of the encounter after the battle was over and "started clicking selfies with the bodies of the slain terrorists".

The Indian Army's Northern Command tweeted that it was army troopers who had killed the terrorists who had attacked the CRPF convoy. The tweet added that the injured CRPF personnel were being attended to.

According to The Indian Express report, the CRPF contested the army's claim and informed the latter that the "entire ambush was neutralised" by its personnel.

The report added that subsequent to the CRPF challenging its claim, the Northern Command put out a second tweet. The second tweet attributed the killing of the terrorists to a joint operation between security forces.

However, according to the report, the CRPF objected to the second version of events put out by the army too and said that there had been no joint operation.

Finally, the Northern Command of the army put out a third and final tweet, which said that the two terrorists had been killed by CRPF personnel alone and that earlier tweets on the incident stood corrected.
