25 teams of NDRF deployed in districts which will be affected by cyclone Fani

As many as 25 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in the districts which will be affected by the extremely severe cyclonic storm and three more teams are on standby in Bhubaneswar. Similarly, 18 teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) have been dispatched and fire services teams are on standby.

Odisha to evacuate over 800,000 people from vulnerable areas by today evening

With extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani inching closer to make a land fall in Odisha, the state government has started evacuation of vulnerable population from low lying areas in 13 districts to safer places.
 
The government has targeted to evacuate 0.8 million people by this evening, a notch below of 0.9 million people evacuated during tropical cyclone Phailin that hit the state in 2013.

The Prime Minister has instructed senior officers to maintain close coordination with officers of affected states, to ensure preventive measures, and also to take effective steps for relief and rescue operations, as required.
 
The meeting was attended by the Cabinet Secretary, the Principal Secretary to the PM, the Additional Principal Secretary to the PM, the Home Secretary, and other senior officials from the IMD, NDRF, NDMA and PMO.

According to the weather office, the cyclonic storm is very likely to move north-northeastwards and cross the Odisha Coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali, around Puri, during May 3 afternoon with a maximum wind speed of 170-180 kmph, said PTI article.
