According to PTI's report, the Odisha government has decided to disconnect the power supply in view of very severe cyclonic storm Fani, when the wind speed reaches 50 kilometres per hour as a precautionary measure for the safety of people and equipment. The state government said that once the wind speed reduces, the power supply shall be restored in a phased manner after the necessary checking of electrical installations.

The Government said that 10,000 villages and 52 towns located in 9 districts in Odisha will be affected. Also, the government has already taken action on evacuation. Around 900 cyclone shelters have been made ready to house the evacuees.

Cyclone Fani reaches 80 km from Puri
According to IMD, Cyclone Fani, which is expected to make a landfall at the Odisha coast by Friday forenoon, was nearly 65 kilometres from Gopalpur and 80 kilometres from Puri at 5.30 am. The Cyclone Warning Division of the India Meteorological Department said the wind speed of the Extremely Severe Cyclone Fani could reach 200-230 kilometres when it makes the landfall.

The Indian Navy has deployed three naval ships so that it can launch rescue operation after the cyclone hits the coastline of Odisha and the Indian Coast Guard has positioned 34 disaster relief teams at different spots and deployed four ships to handle any exigency.
