Cyclone Tauktae: 29 persons aboard three vessels rescued in Mumbai

At least 29 persons aboard three vessels which went adrift due to cyclone Tauktae in the Arabian sea were rescued jointly by the Mumbai Police, CISF and Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders near Angre jetty here on Tuesday, officials said.
 
All the three vessels- two of them fishing boats- went adrift in the sea after their anchors broke in the cyclone they said.
 
MV Saraswati and MV Kajal with 22 people on board went adrift near Mazagaon Dock Limited (MDL), an official said.
 
MV Saraswati is a shipping survey boat of the Central government, he said.
 
Both the boats- each with 11 people on board- were brought safely to the shore by officials of the police, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the MDL, he said.
 
Around 3.30 pm on Tuesday, seven members aboard another vessel MV Preetisagar were rescued in time, the official said, adding the boat was about to sink as its anchor was broken.
 
Officials of the Anti-Terrorism Cell (ATC) were present at the shore in Sewree in Mumbai during the rescue operation and nothing suspicious was reported, the official added.

Over 16,000 houses were damaged, and more than 40,000 trees and over 1,000 poles uprooted due to the cyclonic storm in Gujarat, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said.

PM Modi to visit Gujarat, Diu to review situation after cyclone Tauktae

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat and Diu on Wednesday to personally review the situation there and the damage wrought by cyclone Tauktae, government sources said.
 
He will leave Delhi at around 9:30 AM and land at Bhavnagar from where he will proceed for an aerial survey of Una, Diu, Jafarabad and Mahuva, they said.
Modi will also hold a review meeting at Ahmedabad.

Cyclone Tauktae brings record May rains, leaves trail of destruction in Maharashtra

With at least 11 dead, the fury of Cyclone Tauktae on Monday brought in record highest rains and unprecedented levels of destructions in the coastal districts of Maharashtra, officials said on Tuesday.
 
Relief & Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Wadettiwar said that at least 11 persons have been killed, including 3 in Mumbai, in various storm-related incidents and another 5 are reported missing from the coastal areas of the state comprising Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar which bore the brunt of the cyclone.
 
"There has been huge devastation of mango orchards, cashewnuts, coconuts and other plantations and we have asked the district authorities to immediately prepare 'panchnamas' for relief," he told media persons.

After-effects of Cyclone Tauktae: IMD says Delhi-NCR, parts of north India to receive rains

As Cyclone Tauktae weakens further, its after-effects will bring moderate rains to several parts of north India, including Delhi-NCR, over the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.
 
Kuldeep Srivastava, Head of the Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD, said Cyclone Tauktae has brought rains to southern Rajasthan as it approaches north India.
 
"Tomorrow, it will stretch from Rajasthan to Haryana. Due to this, east and west Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, the Delhi-NCR region will witness moderate rain. There is a possibility of heavy rains in some parts of Delhi," Srivastava said.

Cyclone Tauktae: Navy, Coast Guard rescue 317 people from two barges

Battling extreme weather, the Indian Navy and Coast Guard have so far rescued 317 people on board two barges that went adrift in the Arabian Sea near Mumbai hours before Cyclone Tauktae made landfall on the Gujarat coast, but 390 more remain stranded or missing from offshore facilities, an official said on Tuesday.
 
Three barges and an oil rig with 707 personnel on board had gone adrift on Monday. These included accommodation barge P305 with 273 persons, cargo barge GAL Constructor with 137 personnel on board, accommodation barge SS-3 with 196 personnel on board and the Sagar Bhushan oil rig with 101 personnel on board, a Navy official said.
 
While all the 137 people on board the cargo barge GAL Constructor have been rescued, 180 of the 273 onboard P305 have been rescued so far, the official said.

Incessant rains lash Ahmedabad as Cyclone Tauktae moves northward

Many areas of Ahmedabad city were inundated with knee-deep water following incessant downpour since afternoon as cyclone Tauktae passed northward along the district's periphery.
 
The city received a staggering 75.69 mm of rain between 6 am and 4 pm, said Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar. The rain intensified after 3 pm as forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), he said.

A latest IMD update said the cyclone, centred 105 km south-southwest of Ahmedabad, was moving towards Banaskantha district in the north. READ MORE...
