Data story: India logs 16,935 new Covid cases; death toll reaches 525,760

India reported an increase of 815 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 144,264. The country is twenty-seventh among the most affected countries globally by active cases. On July 18, it added 16,935 cases to take its total caseload to 43,767,534. And, with 51 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 525,760, or 1.20 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
With 446,671 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on July 17, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 2,000,461,095. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 43,097,510 — or 98.47 per cent of
