DATA STORY: India sees most Covid deaths in a day since Jan 15, biggest jump in tally since Dec 13

India on Wednesday reported a net increase of 10,974 to take its count of active coronavirus cases to 234,406. That is 76.97 per cent lower than the September 18 peak of 1,017,754. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases now stands at 1.13 per cent (one in 88). The country is 11th among the most affected countries by active cases. On Wednesday, it added 28,903 cases to take its total caseload to 11,438,734. And, with 188 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 159,044, or 1.39 per cent of total confirmed infections.
