While stating this today, Deputy Commissioner, Ambala, Shekhar Vidyarthi said that however, on the demand of the Roadways employees, the incident would be thoroughly investigated and necessary action would be taken.
He said that the incident occurred in the morning when the buses were moving out of the workshop for their respective destinations. Narender Singh was standing outside the workshop, on the other side of the driver’s seat.
As a bus suddenly came out of the gate of the workshop, he ran towards the bus, collided with it and a pillar being behind him, he fell down. He was immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital by the officers where he was declared as dead.
Immediately after getting the information of the tragic accident, Police Commissioner of Ambala-Panchkula, Mr Rajbir Deswal, Deputy Commissioner, Ambala, Shekhar Vidyarthi, Deputy Superintendent of Police Urban, Ashok Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, S. S. Phulia, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Mukesh Ahuja and other officers rushed to the spot of the accident and took stock of the situation.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the administration was pained of the tragic accident. He said that he has urged the people, especially the leaders of the Union not to politicize this issue to vitiate the atmosphere.
Rajbir Deswal also condoled the death of bus driver and said that although Narender Singh has died in an accident, yet it was sad that the few Roadways employees who reached the spot pelted stones on police officers and their vehicles. He made it clear that police would not tolerate any laxity in this issue and necessary action was being taken by the police.
Deswal said that adequate arrangements have been made to deal with any untoward incident due to the ‘bandh’, the call for which has been given today. He also urged the people to exercise restrain and ensure that no damage is caused to life and property. He said that blocking roads is not only against the law, but it also causes hardship to the people, especially the senior citizens, the sick, children and women. As a result of damage to public property in agitations, the people have to bear for it, he added.
He urged the people to cooperate with the administration and do not take law in their own hands. Section 144 has already been imposed in the district to deal with the ‘bandh’ call and adequate arrangements for security have also been made.
