Delhi flight operations hit due to gusty winds

Flight operations at Delhi airport were hit and fourteen flights were diverted to Ahmedabad and Jaipur due to gusty winds on Monday.

Operations were disrupted from late afternoon as aircraft could not take off or land because of strong tail winds. Inbound planes were forced to divert after holding over the airport. This led to heavy congestion causing delays.

Air India, Jet Airways, AirAsia, IndiGo and GoAir flights were diverted to other airports.

While aircraft can take off or land in upto 15 knots winds were gusting in between 20-40 knots putting operations on hold. The wind condition was fluctuating throughout the evening putting and a result operations were hit throughout the evening.
 
Evening departures and arrivals were delayed 30-40 minutes and this had a cascading impact on airlines' network.
