Delhi violence: 436 cases filed, over 1,400 held or detained
The Delhi Police has arrested 436 FIRs and arrested or detained 1,427 people in connection with the communal violence in northeast Delhi, an officer said on Tuesday.
Forty-five of the cases were registered under the Arms Act, the officer said. According to police, the police control room (PCR) did not receive calls of rioting in the past six days.
Delhi violence: AAP govt issues phone number, email to report hate content
The Delhi Government has launched a phone number and an email id for the public to report content that has potential to disturb communal harmony, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj said on Tuesday after the meeting of Peace and Harmony Committee.
Bhardwaj said, "The second meeting of Peace and Harmony Committee was held today. We have launched an email ID dvscommittee@delhi.gov.in and phone number 8950000946, where people can file complaint against content that has potential to disrupt communal harmony in society."
Jamia teachers to contribute day's salary for Delhi riot victims
Jamia Teachers' Association (JTA) on Tuesday announced that all teachers of Jamia Millia Islamia will contribute a minimum of a day's salary for the welfare of Delhi riot victims. The decision was taken after a delegation comprising Jamia teachers was sent to the riot affected areas in northeast Delhi on February 29.
The teachers also decided that all through the year, they will no make no "lavish purchase" and will stick to basic household expenses. The savings generated will also be contributed to help the riot victims.
Over 1,000 moved in Mustafabad relief camp in 24 hours, all facilities available: Delhi govt
Over a 1,000 riot-affected people moved into a Delhi government's relief camp in Mustafabad in the past 24 hours and they are being provided with all basic facilities, officials said on Tuesday.
According to a statement, the relief camp has witnessed a massive response from the riot-affected victims from the adjacent areas. In this camp, the Delhi govt has set up all the essential facilities and providing doctors, medicines, food, clothing, bedding and toilet facilities, the statement said.
HC moved over damages announced by Delhi govt
The Delhi High Court has been moved against the compensation announced by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for Delhi violence victim without identifying the affected persons. It was "arbitrary" and "unreasonable", said the petition.
The plea, filed by Nand Kishore Garg through advocate Shashank Deo Sudhi, is likely to come up for hearing on Wednesday. It seeks the court's direction to strike down the compensation order to all riot victims.
Shahrukh stayed in Delhi, Punjab and UP while on run: Delhi Police sources
Investigations have revealed that Shahrukh, the man who brazenly opened fire at cops during violence in north-east Delhi, initially kept roaming around in the national capital before slipping away to Punjab and Uttar Pradesh's Shamli from where he was arrested on Tuesday, said Delhi Police sources.
According to the sources, on February 24, after he fired shots at police personnel, Shahrukh went back home and was petrified to see his photos flashing on the television screen. He then changed his clothes, drove to Hauz Khas and kept roaming around in the clubs there.
Expelled AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain moves Delhi court for anticipatory bail
Expelled Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Municipal Councillor Tahir Hussain, who is currently absconding, on Tuesday moved a Delhi court for an anticipatory bail in connection with an FIR lodged against him for his alleged involvement in the killing of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma.
Advocate Mukesh Kalia representing Tahir Hussain moved the anticipatory bail which is now listed for hearing before District and Sessions Judge Sudhir Kumar Jain on Wednesday. The expelled Councillor is an accused in the FIR lodged over the killing of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma whose body was recovered from a drain in Chand Bagh on February 26 during the violence in northeast Delhi.
