Mohammad Izrael, a 55-year-old e-rickshaw driver, took refuge on Delhi's iconic Signature Bridge as he witnessed smoke billowing from a locality which had been run over by rioters. Up in flames was his own house in the Garhi Mendu village, where rioters looted jewellery and other valuables before setting the houses on fire. "When the situation grew tense, I sent my children, including my daughter, who will get married next year, to my brother-in-law's house in Khajuri area. I had asked them to lock me from outside," he said. The rioters broke open the door and started loading the household items -- even things such as TV and fridge -- in a vehicle they had brought, he said. All this while, he was standing on the terrace watching all his savings being stolen, including jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh.

Will ensure no repeat of Delhi violence in Mumbai: Top cop
Newly-appointed Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh on Tuesday said maintaining communal harmony in the city was the priority of the police, and no Delhi-like violence will be allowed to happen here. Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer, took over as the top police officer of the city three days ago. "The police are engaging with people to keep the city incident-free and ensure there is no repeat of Delhi violence," he told PTI.

Delhi violence: AMU medical college doctors to donate Rs 25 lakh
The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of the medical college in Aligarh Muslim University has decided to donate Rs 25 lakh for victims of the communal violence in Delhi. Junior doctors and senior resident doctors of the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College have decided to contribute at least one day's salary for all riot victims irrespective of their community. RDA president Mohammad Hamza said the money would be distributed through the finance officer of the university for relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.

Gunman Shahrukh arrested from Shamli
Mohammed Shahrukh, who was seen pointing guns at unarmed policeman during northeast Delhi violence, arrested from Shamli in UP, Delhi Police said on Tuesday. He had fired three rounds while pointing it at a police personnel during the violence, the pistol is yet to be recovered. He has been charged under section 307 (attempt to murder), 186, and 353 of IPC and Arms Act. Further sections will be added during the course of investigation if needed, Delhi Police said.

Don't spare anyone involved in violence: Kejriwal requests PM; appreciates Delhi police
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday and discussed the situation in the riot-hit northeast Delhi and said he has requested Modi that those responsible for the violence irrespective of party affiliation "should not be spared". It was the first meeting of Kejriwal with Modi after the Aam Aadmi Party returned to power in the national capital for a third consecutive term. The meeting, at the Prime Minister's Office in Parliament, lasted half an hour.

WhatsApp number, email ID issued to complain about hate messages online
A Delhi Assembly panel on Tuesday issued a WhatsApp number and an email ID to complain about hate message being spread on social media over the communal violence in northeast Delhi. Talking to reporters, Aam Aadmi Party legislator Saurabh Bharadwaj, chairman of the Committee on Peace and Harmony of Delhi Assembly, said if people find hate messages on social media, they could complain at WhatsApp number 8950000946 and email ID dvscommittee@delhigov.in.

Displaced Shiv Vihar residents seek help to return home to assess damage
A week after they were forced to leave their homes in Shiv Vihar in northeast Delhi due to communal violence, many residents sheltered at safer places have sought help from police and other authorities to go back and check on their houses. As unrest over the amended citizenship law hit parts of northeast Delhi last week, many families from Shiv Vihar, one of the worst-affected areas, fled to safer places with nothing but the clothes on them. A large number of such families sheltering in Old Mustafabad now want to return to their houses to check for damages or loss, said Munna, a local volunteer in Old Mustafabad.
At a helpdesk set up by some lawyers, many people came to seek assistance to visit their residences in Shiv Vihar. A draft of an application to the deputy commissioner of police of northeast Delhi has been prepared by the lawyers in this connection.

At least 185 students protesting against CAA detained while going to Ramlila Maidan
At least 185 students were detained by police on Tuesday while they were going to the Ramlila Maidan here to protest against the new citizenship law and the recent communal riots in northeast Delhi. According to police, the protesters were detained from different locations in the national capital and taken to several police stations. Around 200 students had gathered at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday morning in response to a protest call given by the Young India Coordination Committee, which comprises members from various student bodies. Former IAS officer and activist Kannan Gopinathan was also present. However, the police restrained the students from proceeding towards the Ramlila Maidan to participate in the protest march against the Citizenship (Amendment) Law and over the communal violence in the national capital.

All Bangladeshis living in Bengal are Indian citizens: Mamata Banerjee
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday all who came from Bangladesh and have been casting votes in elections were Indian citizens and did not require to apply for citizenship afresh.
Banerjee also slammed the Modi government for its handling of the communal riots in Delhi which has claimed 42 lives so far, and asserted she will not allow West Bengal turn into another Delhi.
"Those who have come from Bangladesh are citizens of India...they have got citizenship. You don't need to apply for citizenship again. You have been casting your votes in elections, electing PM and CM...now they are saying that you are not citizens...don't believe them," she told a public meeting here.
