PIL seeks SC monitored SIT probe in Delhi violence
A PIL was filed in the Supreme Court on Monday by a social activist seeking direction for a Supreme Court-monitored SIT probe into the Delhi violence.
The petition was filed by Yogita Bhayana through her lawyer Utsav Singh Bains.
It also sought appropriate orders from the Supreme Court directing Centre to initiate departmental action against police officers for their alleged failure to prevent violence by police personnel.
Further, it sought an order directing the respondents to immediately preserve the CDR (Call Detail Record)/ tower locations of all police officers posted in violence-affected areas during Delhi violence and submit the same to the court.

Youth Congress protests against Delhi violence, demands Amit Shah's resignation
The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Monday organised a protest march against last week's communal violence in Delhi and demanded Union Home Minister Amit Shah's resignation over his alleged "abdication of duty" during violence that rocked parts of the national capital for four days.
The IYC also demanded registration of FIR against BJP leaders Kapil Mishra, Anurag Thakur and Parvesh Verma for allegedly instigating and inciting the public through their hate speeches.
"The government has miserably failed to maintain law and order in the city. The recent Delhi communal killings and arson show a nexus between the rioters and a section of police officials which resulted in gruesome killings and arson that has tarnished India's image across the globe," the IYC said in a statement.

MP CM Kamal Nath pays tributes to Delhi violence victims
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress leader Kamal Nath on Monday paid tribute to the people who lost their lives in the Delhi violence.
"Recently, riots broke out in Delhi and many people died in the violence, I pay my tribute to the people who lost their lives," said the chief minister while addressing a gathering here.
"It is sad that riots broke out in the capital of the country. Ours is a culture that connects, we connect hearts, relationships, that is what our culture is, and this is what our strength is all about. There is no country which is as diverse as our country whether it is language, religions or castes," he added.

Little business in Parliament as Opposition wants Amit Shah out
The two Houses of Parliament, which met on Monday after the Budget session recess, could transact little business as Opposition MPs protested over the communal violence in the national capital.
In the Lok Sabha, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress MPs pushed and shoved each other, as Opposition parties demanded the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah.

Week after Delhi violence, several shops reopen in northeast Delhi's Maujpur
A week after the deadly communal violence hit parts of northeast Delhi, several shops reopened at Maujpur area, the epicentre of the riots from where the stone pelting began on February 23.
As one passes through the area, security personnel could be seen sitting outside several shops. From pharmacies to electronics shops, which were shut down due to the violence, were reopened.
While there are still some shops that are closed down and their shutters read, "NO CAA, NO NRC"

Students in riot-hit areas turn up for first board exam amid distress
With parents keeping vigil outside examination centres in riot-hit northeast Delhi, Class 12 students appeared for their physics board exam despite being distressed over the communal violence that gave many of them sleepless nights and interrupted their studies and concentration. According to the CBSE, around 98 per cent attendance was recorded in the first board exam held in violence-affected northeast Delhi on Monday. Many parents stayed put outside the examination centres during the three hours when their wards appeared for the exam. At many centres invigilators counselled students before they started writing the exams, asking them to not "get stressed due to the past week's events" and focus on the paper.

Will work on Delhi riot cases on priority & submit report within week: FSL
The Forensic Science Laboratory in Rohini will handle the cases related to northeast Delhi communal violence on a priority basis and submit report within a week, an official said on Monday. FSL director Deepa Verma visited the affected areas in Bhajanpura and Dayalpur to take stock of the work being done by her multiple teams. "Our laboratory has taken up these cases on priority. I hope that the result will be submitted very soon to investigating agencies," she said.

Delhi Assembly panel to launch number, email ID for people to complain against hate messages
The Delhi Assembly's 'Peace and Harmony committee' on Tuesday will launch a mobile number and an email ID for people to complain against hate messages and fake news on social media in the wake of recent violence in parts of northeast Delhi. AAP MLA and chairman of the committee Saurabh Bharadwaj said after scrutiny of complaints, the committee will send them to the police for criminal prosecutions. The committee held its first meeting hours after its formation on Monday. "If you are in a chat group in which someone has sent a provocative message then you can become a whistleblower by complaining about it. The committee will propose that such people receive a reward of Rs 10,000 if an FIR gets registered on their complaint," Bharadwaj said.

Delhi violence: Crime branch to probe 47 murder cases
The Delhi Police crime branch will investigate 47 murder cases which were filed after violence rocked the northeast part of the national capital, sources said on Monday. The death toll in the communal clashes over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) that erupted a week ago remained at 42 even as four bodies were fished out of drains in northeast Delhi on Sunday. The sources said some of the cases have already been transferred to the crime branch, while the remaining cases will be shifted either on Tuesday or Wednesday. Meanwhile, the department is facing difficulties in the investigation as tracing eyewitnesses has become a daunting task for the force.

Delhi rumours: Over 3,000 distress calls on Sunday, 1/5th from and around Shaheen Bagh
Delhi police got over 3,000 distress calls on Sunday from people panicked over riot-related rumours like violence, arson and stone pelting across the national capital, officials said. Around one-fifth of these calls on the emergency 100 and 112 numbers came from Shaheen Bagh in South East Delhi and nearby areas in South Delhi, they said on Monday. Panic gripped residents across the national capital on Sunday evening following false rumours of violence but the police denied any incident and appealed for calm, days after riots in northeast Delhi claimed at least 42 lives.

Delhi violence should be probed by sitting SC or high court judge: AAP MPs
MPs on Monday staged a protest inside the Parliament complex over the issue of communal riots in Delhi and demanded a probe by a Supreme Court or high court judge into the last week violence.
AAP MPs Sanjay Singh, Bhagwant Mann, N D Gupta and Sushil Gupta staged the protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex. They raised slogans like "BJP Murdabad".
