Man held for making hoax call about communal clash in south Delhi
A 19-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly making a hoax call regarding a communal clash in south Delhi's Neb Sarai area, police said.
The accused has been identified as Rahul Kumar, a resident of Sainik Farm, they said.
In the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, police received a call regarding a quarrel between two communities at Neb Sarai and the caller claimed that three persons were injured, a senior police officer said. Read more...

Sikh father-son duo saves about 70 Muslims during Delhi violence
About 70 Muslims were saved by Sikh father-son duo during the violence in Gokulpuri area here on February 24.
Mohinder Singh with the help of his son transported Muslim families from Gokulpuri market area to Kardampuri on their two-wheelers.
Speaking to ANI, Singh said: "I and my son shifted about 60 to 70 Muslims during the violence. I was on my scooter and my son was on his bullet. We made 20 rounds from Gokulpuri to Kardampuri area. They were afraid and seeing their fear we decided to shift them from here." Read more...

NHRC deputs fact-finding teams to probe violence in northeast Delhi

Situation returning to normal in riot-hit northeast Delhi
There were some signs of normalcy returning to riot-hit areas of northeast Delhi on Saturday as people stepped out of their homes to buy groceries and medicines from a few shops that opened amid intensified patrolling by security personnel. Since early morning, civic workers were seen clearing bricks, glass shards and burnt vehicles that littered the roads in the aftermath of the violence that left 42 dead and over 200 injured. At some places, even bulldozers were used as it became difficult to manually remove debris. In Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Yamuna Vihar, Chand Bagh, Mustafabad and Bhajanpura, which were among the areas worst hit by the communal violence, there were more vehicles and people on the roads than in the last five days, though schools and most shops remained shut.

NCM delegation visits riot-affected areas for re-establishing amity, brotherhood
A delegation of the National Commission for Minorities led by its chief Syed Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi on Saturday visited the riot-affected areas in Delhi as part of efforts to re-establish amity between communities and provide assistance to the victims of the violence. At least 42 people have been killed and over 200 injured in the communal riots in northeast Delhi. "Today, I visited the riot-affected areas of Delhi along with the National Commission for Minorities Delegation and met the injured victims of both the communities at the hospital and wished them speedy recovery," Rizvi said in a statement.
167 FIRs registered, 885 people either arrested or detained, says police.

Kejriwal holds meeting with SDMs, reviews relief ops
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a review meeting with sub-divisional magistrates on Saturday to take stock of relief operations in riot-affected areas of northeast Delhi. Flanked by his deputy Manish Sisodia, Kejriwal told reporters that the Delhi government wants to ensure that normalcy returns in people's lives, for which several steps are being taken by the authorities. The meeting was attended by around 18 sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) who have been deployed in violence-affected areas. Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam was also present at the meeting.

Delhi govt mulling WhatsApp number for people to complain about hate messages
The Delhi government is considering to issue a WhatsApp number on which people can complain about hate messages being circulated on the messaging application in wake of the communal violence. Authorities will invoke provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act to take strict action against those who is found circulating hate messages on WhatsApp.

Delhi government has recieved 69 forms from affected people for compensaion, Chief Minister Arvind kejriwal said that the financial help will be released by tomorrow. The Chief Minister in a press conference said that we are sending the forms to the families instead of waiting for them to reach us.

BSF to rebuild jawan's home burnt in Delhi riots as wedding gift
The Border Security Force (BSF) will rebuild its Constable Mohammad Anees' house, which was burnt in the riots in northeast Delhi, and hand it over to him as a 'wedding gift', officials said. The 29-year-old constable, who is currently posted at a BSF camp in Radhabari near West Bengal's Siliguri, will also be transferred to Delhi "very soon" so that he can be with his family and prepare for his wedding, according to a senior BSF officer.

BJP MP to give a month salary to families of police, IB personnel killed in violence
BJP MP Parvesh Verma, who is accused of making hate speeches, on Saturday said he would give his one-month salary each to the families of the policeman and Intelligence Bureau employee who were killed in the communal violence in northeast Delhi. "I dedicate my salary of one month each as member of Parliament to the families of Delhi Police head constable Ratan Lal and IB officer Ankit Sharma, killed while doing their duty, in the unfortunate violence in Delhi," Verma, who represents West Delhi in the Lok Sabha, tweeted.

Situation in Delhi far from normal, environment of fear prevailing: Congress
The situation is far from normal and an environment of fear is still prevailing in Delhi, the Congress party said on Saturday, after 42 people people died in the worst communal riots in the city in over three decades. Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma also claimed that a "one-sided" investigation is taking place into the riots. "We have no expectations from Centre or Delhi CM but we have hopes from the courts," he told reporters.
