Bus transport services on Monday were hit across the city due to a strike by Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) employees demanding a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the kin of a deceased driver, following which the Delhi government clamped the Essential Services Maintenance Act (Esma) against the agitating staff.
Services of striking employees will be terminated if they don't turn up for work. If any employee disrupts government work, they can be arrested, an official said. The government action came after people across the city faced a harrowing experience in the absence of around 4,000 DTC buses on the first day of the strike. In some areas, very few DTC buses operated.
